Sorry if I am missing something Brian, could you clarify?.
The way I am reading it 3(F) squadron becomes a Naval air Squadron
LesB is right. 3(F) Harrier Sqn ceases to exist and becomes 3(F) Typhoon Sqn. The Harriers that used to belong to 3(F) Sqn then become 800NAS.

Nice one 😀

The BBMF also have PM631 (I think?).
PS915 spent time as a gateguard during the 60s and 70s, and rejoined the BBMF after a full rebuild in the 1980s. Not sure when it was completed though, possibly 1988?
Piccies of PS915 HERE
I was detached to ‘tiri’ a number of times in the ’80’s and the U2 ops were still on the go. Couldn’t miss the hangar. The only building with more barbed wire than the rest of the station combined. The roof looked like a porcupine, it had so many aerials. Watching the take offs and landing were quite a sight, especially the chase pickup.
Every time a detachment arrived at ‘tiri’, everyone received the same old briefing about ‘ it isn’t here, dont take pictures, don’t talk about it’ etc etc. At one of the U2 barbies, The U2 guy’s were easy to spot. The ‘T’ shirts were a give away.
‘If we arn’t here, then where the f”(k are we?’.
Not only the ‘T’ shirts and Hawaii shirts, but it was pointed out to me when I went on holiday out there, they all had crew cuts. 😀

Despite all the conspiracy theories, my parents were out there at the time and I believe one of my brothers saw it happen, the story I heard was that nothing more sinister than a cross wind caught it on take off. I believe that the take off in a U2 was one of the more critical points of any flight.

The Fairchild Argus looks like the Sibson one (i’m 99.9% certain it is). What is the tractor towing the T33? Looks like a modernised version of the Mercury bomb tractor like the one at the Sywell museum
Is this any help in identifying ‘Terence the Tug’

Just been a piece on Anglia News tonight interviews with the restorer and pilot. Very nice. 🙂
