Friends EGM
Thank you to everyone who attended the Friends of IWM EGM on Thursday 30 March.
The result of the Friends of IWM vote was 64 in favour of merging with IWM, 54 against and 2 abstentions. As the constitution requires a two thirds majority, the motion supported by the Friends Council was not carried forward.
Friends of Duxford have already merged with IWM.

Welch’s Specialist Movements in St Ives was called in to recover the plane – but they got stuck at the lights because the wingspan of the aircraft was about a metre wider than the space between the traffic signals.
Julie Payne, the company’s operations manager, praised her staff for successfully completing the delicate operation to move the historic aircraft.
She said: “We left the field at 3pm, got to the traffic lights at 3.15pm then through the lights at 4.15pm and she arrived home safe at 4.30pm.
“The lights were 8.9m wide and wing span was 9.6m wide, our guys had walked and driven the route prior to moving, after many discussions we were given the go ahead by Cambridgeshire Police.

If your car windscreen breaks do you report it to the DVLA?.

Something to look forward to tomorrow 5 Hurricanes in formation – just. Yes that smudge in the distance under P3717 is the 5th Hurricane.

From the radio chatter, it sounded as though it was supposed to be in the flypast and then break off for the solo routine.

Wednesday 5th July
It’s not just mad dogs and Englishmen that go out in the mid-day sun, American Horsemen do as well as just after 12 o’clock they fired up their thoroughbreds and cantered up to the Alpha hold and to stand near to three P-51’s doing power checks is a noise and vibration to experience. They flew off to the north for a practice display but returned early and Frenesi was returned to the stables, hangar 2, with a technical hitch. In the order taken.

Note the lack of fin fillet on Berlin Express compared to Frenesi behind it.

No space at Duxford for two Forts under winter maintenance.
When the Lancaster finally moves out, there is always the Stephenson hangar.

And back on topic –
Sunday 2nd July
Summer returned to Duxford with blue sky and lots and lots of sunshine. Classic Wings were doing their usual fly in/fly with a Spitfire along with Harvard flights with the all yellow KF183. P-51/Miss Velma left first thing for Old Warden and returned early afternoon. TFC had their P-40F out for a handling flight and a spot of aerobatics. Mid afternoon and Spitfire Mk FR.XVIIIe/SM845 flew in from displaying at Cleethorpes. B-17/Sally-B went off to display at Old Warden and Cleethorpes as well and returned to Duxford the same time the Blenheim returned after its weekend away at Swansea and various displays en-route back to Duxford.
