Just a few from one of the best Saturday’s I’ve had at Duxford in a long time. 😀 Photos in the order they were taken.

Although there was blue sky and sunshine, to start with, there was also a bitterly cold and blustery wind blowing. It was a wooly hat and gloves day. Apart from one GA visitor there was no flying, even the resident flock of birds were noticeable by their absence. Today TFC had aircraft from the western side of their hangar out on the airfield including the Hellcat which hasn’t been air side for a couple of years now. Unfortunately only the Spitfire and Hawk had engine runs as a rain front put paid to any further entertainment.

Does anyone know why Duxford aren’t accepting any visiting GA aircraft for the Airshow on Sat-Sunday?
Had an ask around and apparently the freeloaders in the fields south side complained they were blocking the take off/landing photos. 😀

A very quiet day at Duxford. The calm before the storm – literally according to the weather forecast for the next few days. The Catalina was the first war bird on the move when it was parked out on the airfield following a low rev engine run. As TFC were extracting their P-40F for an engine run out on the grass, the desert Buchon flew in from Humberside with Cliff Spink giving a short display before landing and parking up at ARCo.

Loving that Chipmunk picture Pen Pusher. I’m the pilot in the shot and I’d love a hi-res copy – just for private use of course. I didn’t spot anyone with a camera on Thursday or would have waved.
All the best
PM me an e-mail address and i’ll forward a copy 😀

Had fun at Duxford 40s day, pity there wasn’t a lot of audience. I thought the spitfire 1s were at Biggin Hill? One was in the hanger and other in TFCs hangar looking a bit unwell…
Must have been a different event to the one I was at as there seemed to be a lot more people there than you normally get on a Sunday. It was a museum event not an air show.
As for the Spitfire 1s, P9374 has been resident at Duxford since its first flight a couple of years ago and how do you tell if an inanimate object is unwell?. It only has an engine panel or two removed. Standard practice if you looked around the hangar

BBC Inside Out is a regional opt out program with different areas showing different subjects. The contents shown in the South East wont be the same as the North East.

It was a Classic Wings flying day today. The Rapide was doing air-to-air photography with the OFMC Spitfire, with Nigel Lamb flying MH434, and the Tiger Moths and Harvard’s were up and down quite regularly while I was there.

There were at least two Apache helicopters from Wattisham making use of the airfield grass runway during the morning.
The only other war bird flying was a visiting Chipmunk/G-BBND
Inside hangar 2, the TFC T.20 Sea Fury is in the process of having its Bristol Centaurus removed from the rest of the aircraft.

Its been moved a bit :dev2:

I have no idea. There was no one around to ask when I took the photo.

Very quiet at Duxford today with quite a few of the war birds away for the weekend at various events around the country. Using the in-camera panorama mode on the Sony A-57 SLT so no control over any of the settings.

A tad wet at Duxford this morning but as it was clearing up from the east, the Norwegian Vampire crew decided to make a break for it and head home. The T.33 is due to leave on Thursday, subject to the usual’s.

Another day and a bit more war bird flying. First up was the Grace Spitfire which after spending a few weeks at Duxford has now returned home to Bentwaters and was followed by the Silver T.28/G-TROY which went for an air test before returning for some aerobatics. The ARCo T9 was also out and about and doing a few circuits.

In hangar 2/south the yellow carbon cub has relinquished its American registration for a more appropriate G-reg…….

……and in H2/north, the Leopard Moth is sitting a little forlornly waiting the return of its engine.

The doors to all the hangars are receiving a bit of routine maintenance and this morning it was the turn of AirSpace and an opportunity to photograph the Typhoon in sunlight without it actually being outside in the sunlight.
