    I have to say, I tend to sigh resignedly (is that a word?) when I see a dressed-up Harvard. I tend to think even the old airshow ‘Mess-fire’ would have been better.

    When you consider how well the ‘Dark Blue World’ team did with Battle of Britain outtakes and some electronic wizardry, there really shouldn’t be any excuse for this any more – although as another poster said, that it keeps the Harvard in the air is surely a good thing.

    Agreed, CGI planes invariably look rubbish, but would the current technology allow a DB605 to be grafted onto a Buchon post-facto?

    Further to that, here’s the text of an email from HHA:

    ‘Thank you for your interest in HHA and our Buccaneer S2b G-HHAA.

    We are currently considering very hard whether to fly the Buccaneer at some UK airshows next year. It all depends what demand would be like and the likely revenue prospects for the aircraft, since as you can imagine, it is exceedingly expensive to operate. The actual display costs would have to be borne by the air display organisers.

    So if you want to see the Buccaneer fly at UK airshows, lobby the various airshow organisers.

    We are having an Open Day at our facility at Scampton on the 22nd October. Details can be found in the latest edition of Flypast Magazine. If you would like to see the Buccaneer close up, then that’s you best opportunity at the moment. During the day the aircraft will be carrying out system demonstrations and engine runs.’

    Hawker Hunter Aviation operate Hunters, a Sukhoi S22 and now the Bucc to participate in training with the RAF and others, to save the cost of using modern aircraft. Thay also do airshow appearances – a Bucc flying UK airshows would be very welcome…
