I think it’s the lower portion of a british bomb pistol. Z denotes a zinc base material. Having another look, it may be an exploder pocket which the bomb pistol screws into.
I will back up the electrolysis method. Excellent results and interesting to watch. Another very good method is to use molasses in a tub. Cheap off evilbay and will eat away the rust back to shiny metal. Regards,Scott.
