    RE: SS Enterprise……………

While I am no trekkie, I have to say I like the design. As far as i know, the nacels, the bits that stick out a the back have to be that way so the ship can generate a stable warp field. I maybew rong but im sure i will corrected.

The Federation ships in my opinion very elegant and also very well laid out, in terms of distrubution of armaments.

But rember some of the Federation ships do operate in the atmosphere adn can land on planets, eg USS Voyager

    RE: Firewalls & IP Addresses??????????????

If you want to see how secure your pc is from internet based attacks visit http://www.grc.com and take the Shields Up and Leak Tests.

That will tell you what ports are open and what ports are closed

If Zone Alarm running it will say all ports are stealthed eg invisible to internet attackers

    RE: Earth re-entry problems

Currently the only way to slow the shuttle down is to use the Earths atmosphere. It does what is called a de-orbit burn to start its decent into our atmosphere, but after that it has no or very little fuel left so it uses friction on the air to slow down.

Becasue to go from 12,500mph to 100mph or so in less than 3,000 miles is some feat to do.

I do belive it is time for a new shuttle designed, perhaps a more areo-dynamic one and come in at a slightly slower speed, this could be faciltated by a longer de orbit burn. With a shuttle redesign this should be possible. The other option would to have a space configuration and a earth configuration so it can manover rather than gliding.

    >I heard the US also has Commanche’s and F-22s. COOOL

The US has F-22, Comanche, F117 (Thats one unit you use general points to get) and the always denied Aoura (Not sure spelt that right)

The F-22 lacks ANY stealth measures, the F117 is invisble till it drops its bombs then its fair game to the air defences, same for teh Aoura but its supersonic till it drops its bomb loads.

The Chinese have a MiG, it looks like the MFI ?? prototype, with front canards but cant be sure, i think thats all they have for an airfoce

The GLA dont have an airfoce.

    RE: C&C Generals

EA are not releaseing a demo of Generals until after it has been released which in the UK is 14th Feb. Trust EA to sell the game on the most romatic day of the year.

I have been on the beta test of Generals since it started. It is massive leap forward from the previous command and conquers and other 3D rts titles Westwood have fieled.

You have three sides, US, China and the GLA. All have different weaponry but all have different tactics. Where as in the previous ones, it was a question of tank for tank etc it not so with Generals.

The US are advanced, using Ion Cannons, Tomahawk missles, patriot batteries, hummers etc, all top edge war equipment.

The Chinese are heavily nuclear based, there big units use nuclear weapons. The Chinese lack the defense power of the americans, but they have a greater offence capabilities.

The GLA are a terrorist organistaion, so there units are very practical, converting jeeps, tractors into weaopns of war. They are not as strong as the US and China but their units are cheaper and quicker to build, so they have numbers on their side. They also have a SCUD Storm which launched 7 SCUDS at a target in one go.

Unlike previous games the limit to the super weapons in the test was a wee bit high, can anyone say 30 nuke silos 🙂 I know i can.

One of the new features is the Gernal Feature. Basically as you kill more units you gain more points that you can spend on new technologies, such as airstrikes, nukes, arty barrage. When you reach Level 5 you get the BIG toys.

The US get a nice fuel air bomb delivered by a B-52 which is VERY destructive. The Chinese have an EMP bomb delivered by a prop A/C not sure which one. Im not sure what the GLA have as I dont play that side.

The good thing is if you have sufficent Anti-Air defence you can shoot down the delivery aircraft, before it reaches its target, the draw back is when it crashes its special weapon detonates. This can be very bad, for instance you have a nice army at the front of your base the US is going to drop the bomb on the back of the base but you shoot the B-52 down adn it crashes at the front of the base, its bye-bye army.

Its not without its flaws. A couple that spring to mind are:

    1) When you capture a building the computers says “The Enemy has captured on of our buildings”

    2) Sometimes the grass texture is replaced with the water texture

    3) But one of the most major flaws, is the US supply zones. These babies allow air drops every 2 mins of money about 2000 credits, so you can have loads of these in your base. The draw back is the aircraft dont drop the money then turn and go out the way they came in, they keep flying straight, so if the other side of the map is an enemy base, they will shoot down the planes and advance up the general ladder quicker than you.

So other than those few bugs, it looks to be a most excellent game, one that is already pre-ordered for day of release 🙂 You have to love Gameplay

    RE: Flight simulator 2002

    andrewm,

Do you have any proof with regards to GB Airports not being fully compatible with FS2002?? I have used it and I have no problems at all with any of the features in the game.

If you look above the WebMaster has already said the Northern England will be out in the next week or so not “over the next few years” as you so put it.

It is not World Air Sim selling the Live series it is Key Publishing, so why should it matter that they are not about??

RE: Two Airlines Apply For Cockpit Guns .

It is inevitable that some kind of defence weapon will be applied to aircraft for the crews protection which is all well and good in the states under the “Homeland Security Act” but what about when they leave US airspace and try to enter say UK air space or French and they say no sorry you cant land with weapons on board??

You could use gas to knock the entire cabin out bar the flight crew but once its used one, terrorists, hijackers etc will just take gas masks with them.

One way is to deny any carry on baggage at all and keep everything in the hold, and anyone with metal on they persons have to take it off and that is also stowed in the cargo area.
