you do realise that uk. aussie tec and probably from other countries is being used in the f-35
it is far from a usa only tec
well it looks like its the chinese hackers time to get a payday.. codes anyone?
has any heard if the finacial trouble of uae will hamper the buying of new planes ?
Yea well, neither is LO and costs a sh1tload of money more than improved ECM systems, which eventually leaves USAF with 187 (one hundred and eighty seven) mainstay fighters and a comfort that this is enough! Do you need more?
So, LO it’s even more problematic than ECM and you can always put new jammer/upgrade avionics, in 10-20 years time frame, but you can’t replace wings, or fuselage.
Again, F15’s combat score clearly shows that. And let’s not forget USAF lost 1xF16 as well as 1xF117 in Balkans campaign and how much damage F16 did in comparison to F117s?
As for dedicated CW broadband jamming platforms, you obviously didn’t see what those guys can do to almost all wavelengths, not just X-band…
And LO isn’t logictic problem?
What’s the F22’s fleet availability at any given day, in air-conditioned hangars in nearly factory conditions, at that??You’re right in one thing, though.
You need bombs and planes in the air (not in maintenance) and lots of them. Today and in foreseeable future that’s hardly going to happen with LO planes.
Plus, LO planes are so expensive that for that same money one can build comparatively stronger air fleet, including ECM platforms.
this was the first one i found, can you give your opinion ?
if you like i will post more for you
its a 3 page opinion

well sampaix/dare2’s month ban is too long to wait, he had to do something
you guys have alrady been told on page 2 of this topic

It sound logical, actors have more interest in testing the interoperability than knowing who is the best one.
17/11/09 Defence News U.S. F-22s, F-16s Deploy to UAE
http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=4381455&c=AIR&s=TOP
Quote:
U.S. Air Force F-16s and F-22s have deployed to the United Arab Emirates, the service announced Sunday.
The F-16s will be supporting Exercise Iron Falcon until Dec. 10 at the United Arab Emirates Air Warfare Center. The exercise is designed to bring together Gulf Cooperation Council nations and other countries to strengthen military-to-military relationships, promote regional security, improve combined tactical air operations, and enhance interoperability of forces, equipment and procedures.
During the same period, F-22s will participate in bilateral training opportunities with coalition partners.
this might show the point
total project cost for both our new aircraft
14 f-35 @ 3 bil
24 fa-18f @ 6 bil
so do you really think total cost is the way to judge ?
Well if it’s designed for being looked at from above, then stores become a bit less of an issue. You’re going to be looking at 2 wingtip Micas, and the tip of 2 2000L tanks which can be treated with RAM, and in a 1st day of war scenario the tip of 2 SCALP, which are designed to be stealthy.
Nic
yes it was a good idea at the time
well at least you’re not saying it has active cancellation and i’m told ram doesnt work like that, my opinion is still. they are all + meters in rcs, some more than others, the su and f-15 being the bigest
😀
I’m not sure to what extent rounded intakes, for example would give the Rafale any kind of RCS reduction, I really don’t see much difference in the RCS of either, being decidedly angular is not necessarily something that will detract from RCS reduction either, after all the F-22 is all curves right?
Besides, I mentioned the bodywork of the Rafale, It’s rougher than a badgers ****.they have non flush rivet heads everywhere which will obviously cause radar return to increase when it bounces off them, they have that drogue for re-fueling, that’s not exactly condusive to RCS reduction is it.
As you say though, with meaningful loads I doubt it helps so much either way.
I guess I’m a minority that professes to love the clean elegance of the Typhoon over the curvaceous Rafale, c’est la vie
my opinion, rafale were designed as a self escorting low level bomber, when designed that was the doctrin, the intakes were put within the body line looking from above, so giving a better rcs from that view
but lets all put a bit if reality in this, rafale, ef gripen sh etc are all rcs measured in + meters, when in a typical combat load
If those Hornets were enough then why the need for the SH as a stopgap?
I personally think the RAAF could have done with just retiring the F111 and jumping directly to the JSF.
Now IF numbers were considered too low, then surely it would have been cheaper to lease some Gripens than to buy those SH and the infrastructure to support them.
Nic
infact you are right, our airforce were quite happy to just retire the f111 as they said the 18ab & systems could handle any neighbour and wait for the f-35, but it was delayed and we played it safe
the sh was the easiest plane to intergrate and its fully developed now, not a maybe in 5 years
Sweden paid 3,9 SEK to update 31 airframes from A/B to C/D status. That’s 611 million AUD for 31 airframes…
Secondly I have no clue why you talk about this switching from Hornets to Rafales. I haven’t mentionned Rafale a single time in here nor have I ever thought it being a realistic (or even desireable) choice for the RAAF? Now you’re the one I’d accuse of trolling
i dont know how to say it any clearer, we have done a MLU, its done finished, they are probably the most advanced fa18ab’s
i was putting it in rafale terms you would understand
from ‘herman the german’ at mp
The “RAF test flying insider” who has flown the Mig-29 and all the US Teen Series fighters is Craig Penrice. You can find the relevant interview with him on the day 3 podcast, 15.40-end. The planes are mentioned at 18 min. Believe it or not.
http://www.arabianaerospace.aero/index.php?section=audio
You don’t believe that there is another RAF pilot that has flown the Rafale in a exchange program? How so?
I missed it.
So for how much will the USN take them back? Has this been negociated yet?
Nic
no, it hasnt been, we could even sell to a 3rd party but as they wont have had a carrier landing, just frame hrs, they are seen as a value to usn and want first option
especially when you take into account that 12 of them are ea-18g growlers
I doubt 24 airframes would cost any where near 6 billion AUS$ to operate for 10 years. (by the way the cost of upgrading 24 A/B airframes to C/D standard would be ~ 475million AUD).
as if you would know how much it costs
the MLU was also answered on the last page, you dont even bother to read the posts and just seem to troll nonsense
frankly i cant see an aussie pilots wanting to swap even the 25 yr old fa-18b+ for a rafale, as our fa-18b+ has better radar, better weapons, a hms and decent ew for a start
Is there even the remote possibility that the SH can be taken back by the USN after the RAAF starts to get it’s JSF in numbers?
Nic
that was answered by 2 posters on the last page
Zeltweg AB adaptation for 15 EFs, came at a price of 49m€, originally. That’s ~75m$.
How do you figure adaptation for 14 F35 will cost 2b$ (even Australian $)??
Apparently no one here knows the deal breakdown. Why?
because this was just a one page media info, released today,
http://www.minister.defence.gov.au/Faulknertpl.cfm?CurrentId=9753
it will take a month for the airforce to release info for us all to see tha better picture
the scuttlebuck was we were going to order just 2 aircraft, an order of 14 is a surprise to most of us
