so if i look up MBDA france i will find they said that they were researching ‘active stealth’ ?
‘active stealth’ is general and would include a host of techs even russian plasma
    active cancellation is specific
maybe they mean plasma ‘active stealth’
    http://militarynuts.com/ar/t111.htm
France explores characteristics of plasma fields in relation to low-observable technology

heck it might even be like the f-35 composites that have 2 layers of mesh that have an electric current running for “active stealth”

is there an english translation of the article yet or an electronic edition i can translate ?

the french wiki has no mention of spectra having ac only the english version, is this a local joke on the silly beef eaters ?

what is really funny here is that sweetman used you guys here on key as a source for his AC article, and you guys are using him to back you, it only gets funnier

That’s its whole purpose in fact, as a stand off jammer.

its pretty handy as a stand-in and escort jammer too 🙂
its from 2003 but this was worth a read

Funnily french main aeronautic defense magazine as well as Bill Sweetman make different conclusions… They are much more authoritative than you. Given the sensitive nature of this technology it will never be written black and white in an open source document. That’s why when the french defense budget allocate funds to a stealth rafale demonstrator as officially mentioned some specialized journalist inquired and arrived to such a conclusion.
Have you inquired like they have done, interviewing different people in the industry ? Of course not.

french main aeronautic defense magazine saying that rafale has AC with a creditable quote would be fine
can you give me the link ?

Not with range enough to stay out of S-300/400 envelope and still be of any use whatsoever.

can you tell me the envelope of a s-400 while its being jammed ?

If F-18 Growlers are to support F-35, presumably vs IADS, and F-18 is so vulnerable vs IADS, if not out right obsolete.
-Then what new does F-35 bring at all ?

Growler doesn’t have stand off jamming so just shoot down those and the mission is aborted.
And if F-35 doesn’t need it, why bring the Growler that only burden the party ?

    the growler has standoff jamming

Growlers will support both of them, but the Super Hornets will require it, and that’s the difference.

    sh will require it more
but i think there will be always jamming platforms, uav-j and maud-j etc with the f-35, even f35 jammers in contested air
it just makes the job easier

Jobim also noted that even after a decision by the president, with the choice of model, also will begin a “long process of negotiation of commercial and financial” with the chosen one.:

thats the only part that may affect it, depending on the views of the new gov
when we had a change of gov here, the fa-18sh and f-35 purchase was re-evaluated with possible cancellation of it
the conclusion was that they stayed with the fa18 and f35 decision

i dont think any of us are looking for a definitive answer with exact specifications
a creditable link is enough for most of us

low frequency AC for use in submarines has about the best chance for an application of it and there are creditable links
bills not getting an answer to an asked question, isnt any grounds for a creditable claim

the several years ago MBDA small research into AC for any possible use on cruise missiles is one that can and is proved by a creditable link
i’m sure there has been numerous other such examples

there is no such creditable link for the claim that there is any research being undertaken for rafale, let alone the claims that it has it now
its just another silly pixie dust claim, like BW’s that you can see 1/2cm of ram on base of the upright of the refueling probe
at least we have clarified that there isnt any mention of AC in the french budget and can put that one to sleep

    edit
@missileer i missed your post, strangely enough, i think it answers your post too

rafales direct energy weapons shouldnt be too hard to map in the AC layout and the bonus is they wont be expended

thank you for confirming that there is no mention of AC
    – Demonstration discretion Rafale;
    – Introduction of new capabilities to SPECTRA

there is plans for a ‘more stealthy’ or “reduced signature” rafale
also plans for the spectra 5T self defense
again neither has any mention of AC

The fact that hundreds of millions is allocated to this tech in order to clear AC for operational use on the rafale of the 5th batch is a better indication to any selective google search from a non specialist forumer.

from the quoted link from TMor, it doesnt say AC in the 2010 defense budget, please show me where
that is a wild claim for which you dont have a creditable budget link to as you claim, there is no mention of AC, its just in your’s and bills imagination
please show where any creditable link where dassault, thales, budget, goverment, airforce says AC is being developed for rafale

at least no one is still saying it has AC now, something that was popular for years
i find it funny that you challenge the janes link to the f-22 id and dismiss it because you say its only 80% and 20% speculation
yet seem quite happy to hang your hat on 100% speculation on rafale AC

but i dont pretend to be knowledgeable, at best i can claim i can google
AC was well before the 90’s would you like me to find you a link ?

its a shame bill doesnt back his opinions with a link

Jackjack on this point of ID :

-A claim/idea in an article does not give any clue if the radar ID of the F22 currently works and how well it performs (At longer range vs RSC reduced aircraft or with EW). Do you have a concrete example of this feature used in exercise ? The answer is no while the OSF is used in each exercise and its praised by its pilots. Operational reality versus paper-claim.

-You have to go active betraying your position an your own ID. For this reason F22 are not keen to use their radars but rely on third party targeting (AWACS, F15 AEASA) or its passive sensor. So using this capability if it exists and if it is operational is a dilemma while he OSF is a totally passive way of ID. If F22 radar ID was ready or easy to use they would use it more often. OSF is used in each exercise to ID aircrafts. Not the case of the F22.

So on top of the fact that this capability has not been demonstrated to our knowledge it encompasses some trade off and little is know about its performance about RCS reduced aircrafts or in a EW environment.
For this reason talking about it is 80% speculation vs 100% reality for the OSF…Although the tech sounds promising and is an option for rafale of the 5th batch.

it might be best if you post the answer in the other thread so we can continue
but just off the top of my head, you are talking a 40k id after something has given the daylight camera the bearing to look in
do i really have to google to see when the rafale will have a decent id system ?

i used the ability of the f-22 radar to id not at 40k, but multiples of, to give a comparison
the f-22 does actually have a friend or foe system, which if you fail you’re dead
then there is the emissions sensor
but i’ll go into depth in the other thread

I also work for the aviation industry. However there is just so much specialities that to say that you and me are amateurs in regards of radar or EW technology is perfectly valid. Even the word amateur is an overkill.

i’m happy to put my hand up as a pleb, but the links i post arent
eg the rcs book above i linked re AC
    http://books.google.com.au/books?id=j7hdXhgwws4C&pg=PA273&lpg#v=onepage&q&f=false

heck, i can give you direct quotes from someone who’s defense career is signature management [stealth] and his opinion on the rafale fanboy AC claims, if you like
