    So it’s an assumption.
It’s also not all that credible given that the USAF desperately wanted as many F22 at this time as it could possibly get.

got a link for this ?
it is my understanding that the pentagon/usaf wanted the f-22 stopped as it wasnt what they needed and it was senators that wanted to keep the jobs in their state and senator paper bags with some of LM profits that wanted it to go on

if this topic has any sense answer me why this is
compared to the fa18cd, the super hornet is a pig, now find me someone that will swap his seat in a 18sh for a 18cd
and the navy had been offered 25% more power for the 18sh for years, but they dont want it

    — At sea level, the F/A-18C’s sustained turn rate is 19.2 degrees
per second, while the F/A-18E’s sustained rate is 18 degrees per
second. The instantaneous bleed rate of the F/A-18C is 54 knots per second, whereas the F/A-18E will lose 65 knots per second in a turn.

    — At 15,000 feet, the F/A-18C’s sustained turn rate is 12.3
degrees per second, while the F/A-18E’s sustained rate is 11.6
degrees per second. The instantaneous bleed rate of the F/A-18C is 62 knots per second, whereas the F/A-18E will lose 76 knots per second in a turn.

    — At 5,000 feet at maximum thrust, the F/A-18C accelerates from
0.8 Mach to 1.08 Mach7 in 21 seconds, whereas the F/A-18E will take 52.8 seconds.

    — At 20,000 feet at maximum thrust, the F/A-18C accelerates from 0.8 Mach to 1.2 Mach in 34.6 seconds, whereas the F/A-18E takes 50.3 seconds.

    — At 35,000 feet at maximum thrust, the F/A-18C accelerates from 0.8 Mach to 1.2 Mach in 55.80 seconds, whereas the F/A-18E takes 64.85 seconds. The F/A-18C accelerates from 0.8 Mach to 1.6 Mach in 2 minutes 12 seconds, whereas the F/A-18E takes 3 minutes and 4 seconds.

snafu thank god for that, we wont be hearing any more from you about LR passive ir mica, spectra and the updates for the rafale any more and a hoast of other things, as none of them have been shown as capability fact
what are you going to post now that your dreams are gone ?

how many engagements do you think will get to wvr ?
so hobs, hmd and das arent in the wvr tactics and it will be a ww1 gun fight with the odd missile here and there
i know the rafale is pretty primitive to the f-35, but it has moved past the specs of ww1

well that was a mistake on your part originally not to include it, as lex are relevant to this :diablo:

So I see that both jackjack and jeesmo made a fine copy and paste work to explain how a raptor can passively detect a plane:

Nevermind the fact that wrightwing and I were discussing instances where the Rafales would fly without the radar on, which is what any sane pilot would do.

    Nic

do you meant my answer to arthuro, that he hasnt got back to me about yet ?
rafale radar on or off it doesnt matter the f-22 knows where you are 1 vs 1 or in its systems battlespace
if the f-22 can force the rafale to turn its radar off as well, it has already won 1/2 the battle

Designed from the outset for operation in dense RF environments, the APG-77 is reported as having a maximum range in excess of 180 nmile against a fighter-sized target
In addition to the normal Search, Track-While Scan (TWS), Multiple Target Track and Dogfight modes, the radar incorporates an ultra-high resolution target recognition mode, offering centimetric resolution at the extremes of its range envelope. Returns generated by the ultra-high resolution mode are matched to an onboard library to facilitate “non-cooperative target recognition (NCTR)”

the rafale radar when it is on is said to be 3sm @ 110 k or 55 nm
ps you were right, i was mistaken to take the manufacturers stats, the french say 80k for the mica

as its also being fitted to the f-35, it will be interesting to see if aussies go for the meteor too, we got the UK asraam for our planes

looking at your last post, is this the question/statement ?

Well if the Rafale’s radar isn’t emitting there is nothing an F-22 could detect by passive means, if the F-22 is radiating and the SPECTRA can detect and jam it where is your guarantee that the F-22s INEWS is capable to detect and track the jamming signals to generate target coordinates to fire a missile?

well my only claim to fame is i never posted that anywhere, to support the phoon in its claim
i have said i think the rafale is better dogfighter and down low and the phoon is better up high bvr

    Wow…

Hey Jessmo24 : F-22 IS THE ULTIMATE A2A/A2G FIGHTER that will NEVER BE OUTCLASSED IN ANY ASPECT ! ! !

Are you happy now ? Do you feel better ?

    😡

no signature management stays still and it evolves, at the moment f-22 seems to be the yard stick but something will knock it from its perch, whether is usa, euro, asian or russian tech, we will see

DGA, which manages all defense related programmes in France, saies the Mica’s range is >80km. For M2000-5 pilots, BVR fight begins at 20 Nm up to 40 Nm. There are some conditions under which Mica might be launched at 80km, but 60-70 km must be a more reliable range. In addition, the strengh of Rafale is the ability to identify its targets at 40km allowing it to shoot before WVR range. RoE are important.

well thats creditable to me, the french say a range is 80k
along with this supporting link that i thought was a typo

that is only speculation from you jack jack. EW is an aera which has seen massive investment in france. Spectra alone has accounted for a significant part of rafale dev. costs.
If there is an aera where france might be ahead it is precisely EW. And french EW equpment has enjoyed a good reputation so far (see greek opinion). The cooperative jamming capability revealed shows that spectra development is always very active with future major upgrades to come. Unlike the F22 or F35 which can rely on stealth the rafale has to come with very innovative and performant EW solutions to remain survivable. The fact that is has the strategic role of nuclear detterent makes Spectra vital to the rafale and france to remain a credible in the nuclear role. Thus the continuous investment and upgrade.

Unfortunately there is not enough precise hard data to debate precisely. So your opinion is based on hot air. You can only make assumption and given french experience in this field and the vital role of spectra in rafale survivability everything indicates that it is a very good pice of equipment.
A piec of equipment which attracts a lot of curiousity and jalousy obviously.

i think you are referring to the SP link to someone in defense which seems to be the substance of your post,
i could send an email to thales if asked to confirm facts, but as the significant spectra upgrade is unfunded at this stage for ~2020 IOC seem to indicate he’s on the right track with money and tech and said it is based on trade articles
i can and will answer the best i can if you want but after we finish the points on page 3 or it will be too hard for me to keep track of what you agree with me about
unless you mean what i said
“it depends on its ability to see the aesa transmission as a radar signal and not just background hash, which seems to be the usa/aesa design goal”
which seems accurate enough not to be challenged but i will support it with data if required

claims of great EA,EW would be more creditable if france like usa. had significant sniffers and growler dedicated platforms of great capability

also i answered your earlier post here # 80 with what i think is a creditable link, see if you agree

I vaguely recall a demonstration Matra put on for the ROCAF in the early 1990s that involved an IR Mica. The Mica was launched from a Mirage 2000 at high speed and high altitude (I don’t recall the launch parameters) against at target drone with a flare skimming the wave tops. As I recall, the range was about 90 km and the target drone was destroyed. It was an impressive demonstration then, and still is today.

i know its hard to keep up with all the long distance claims of the mica fanboys
it doesnt say but the RF Mica seems more likely one
    http://www.taiwanairpower.org/af/mirage.html
On May 8, 1998, a two-seat Di fired one MICA missile and successfully hit a target drone 67 km away. It was the first launch of the said missile outside France.
