I’m not Google!
Anyway Typhoon for example was listed as 5th generation on the RAF’s own website…but as I regard the whole GENERATION concept as invalid why bother wasting my time giving you links to something I don’t believe in?
no sunshine, how it works is, if you make a claim and are called on it, you need to substantiate it or withdraw it
ps, i looked on the raf site and couldnt find a reference to the typhoon being called a 5th gen
pps, 4.5 is defined as a 4th gen air frame with a bit of rcs work with 5th gen electronics, hence the reference to the decimal point 5
i understand the reason of the title of this topic, but there is no such thing as a 4.9
ok Fedaykin, i’ll take the bait, show the links to where they say they are 5th gen
there is a LRIP increase price because of lower production, they havent indicated a higher long term price
we are getting 14 then 58 with ioc 2018-19,
we have a 3-4 year buffer, you are needlessly concerned given even the delayed timeline
a decision on the remaining 24-28 will then be made for 2025 when the fa-18f are due to go back
it isnt to compete with ucav, the ucav’s are to supliment the f-35
john, as an aussie, why does it matter to you ? we want IOC in 2018-19
This is just childish spinning for the sake of spinning…Of course that stealth can’t be emulated by a 4th gen but the rest can. That extactly what I meant. Grow up 😉
no, its stating the obvious, a 4th gen cant be a 5th gen, even with 5th gen toys, i dont think some of the toys would be as effective on a 4th gen platform because of the larger detection range
I think it may be because you have the images cached on your drive and we don’t. All I get is a small JPEG asking me to view the page at F-16 net.
it worked for me, i think you should clear your PC

i’ll try and upload it
Excpet for stealth …
.
your first 3 words said it all
When comparing F22 sensors to the rafale or the F35 (and some others like the gripen NG) it must be said that F22 radar dates from the early 2000 decade while F35, rafale or other new AESA are a decade younger. When you see the pace of technology development I bet that an APG81, RBE2 AESA, APG79 or a vixen AESA will have some edge over the APG77.
Especially when you know that the APG77 was one of the first of its kind (AESA).
To be the first comer is always very expensive as you don’t have an experienced workforce nor a industry tool to mass produce and design AESA radars. You have to start from zero and the initial investment is considerable. Other project benefited from a more progressive knowledge curb and a maturing of this technology.
The same can be said for other sensors…I don’t see why F22 sensors would beat everything even tens years after.
It has some features that can’t be emulated easily like VLO or SC but in the sensor arena the F22 won’t have an edge for ever and it is highly probable that some of its sensors are already not the bests anymore.
you are making the assumption that there isnt upgrades to the f-22, a simple google will show there are many
a 4gen can never be a 5gen
i dont see number 5 as a 5gen requirement
OK, but supercruise is one of the main 5th gen qualifiers.. that means F-35 is no 5th gen, just 4+ or 4++ gen, as well, do I get it right?
my guess is that there are more important things for 5gen than supercruise
given that f-35 wasnt designed for sc yet is still a 5 gen
other wise you could stick some missiles on a business jet and call it 5 gen
It’s not just about engine, the poor wing sweep and chubby body of F-35 mean she will be draggy after M 0.8 and not leave transonic until ~M1.3
although they say it has good transonic acceleration, youre right the plane its self isnt designed to be a supersonic cruiser
ir managed subsonic seems the plan
:confused:According to my knowledge F-35 doesn’t supercruise – means it’s no 5th gen, either..
nope, no supercruise for f-35, needs different engine design for it to do this
Rafale is superior to Gripen and they still belong to the same generation according to LM, what’s your point?
The ‘borders’ of generations are intentionally set to highlight LM aircraft and I completely ignore them, if you ask me.
he said “The US is not a generation ahead, or even half a generation ahead. It’s just propaganda.”
youre also welcome to think the same, if you want to, frankly, i’m still battling to see the rafale as a 4.5 until the updates are done
we are getting 14 LRIP block 3 lot 6 for testing, which were to be in 2014, we will have to wait to see if that is still the date
4.5 gen and 5th gen is a pure Lockheed marketing tool. Don’t fall for it. The US is not a generation ahead, or even half a generation ahead. It’s just propaganda.
of course its just propaganda, rafale is just as good as the f-22, isnt it
