Well that is the current plan… I thought that decision was premature due to the immature status of the JSF. I see it following the F-111 troubled history for entry into service.

Long delays before entry into service and even longer to get it up to full capability.

By the time the JSF is up to speed I think it will need other types to compliment it. (c2025)

    Cheers

as you know, we are looking at 2018-20 for ioc,

“”By the time the JSF is up to speed I think it will need other types to compliment it””

there is already plans for UCAV for 2025 to compliment the f-35
as i said we are getting the f-35, even if it is going to be years late, but i think 2018-20 is achievable for us, given the effort that usa want IOC in 2014
we have a 4-6 year buffer

    workshare
everyone wants more, including usa firms, greed is good
    Tech transfer
it is a 2 way street, partners have put their tech into f-35
    export versions
its the same plane for everyone, regional threat librarys are different
    performance
    so far it sounds ok
    soverignty issues
dont like it, dont buy it, uk is happy and they get more access to codes than other partners who are happy with their pre-agreed access, it was a news beatup
    cost
we will all have to wait for the final multi-year price
    delivery schedule
depends if early LRIP are required, most are post 2014

Gates Tries to Get F-35 Program Back on Course
the program was running six months behind the latest schedule.
Mr. Gates also said he knew of “no insurmountable problems, technological or otherwise, with the F-35.” But he added a year to the development phase of the program, and slowed plans to increase production, to give the company a chance to catch up..
“our intent to outperform” projections for the program, enabling the government to buy more planes than it expected to over the next few years.

i dont think you know how partnerships work, have a read on the net, wgs is the new high volume system of 6, 3 up so far
one wgs provides greater capability and bandwidth than all the dscs satellites combined
i forget the name of the system that uk is going to join

Well on top of that you need to give yourself a whole bunch of new communications sats. .

aus/us are in partnership with Wideband Global Satellite Communications (WGS) constellation
but i read that uk is going to join in the replacement of this system in about 10-15 yrs

The latest program doc has it at :

    Length: 51.4 ft
    Wing Area: 460 ft2
    Weight (Empty): 29,036 lbs
    Internal Fuel: 18,840 lbs
    Range: 600 + nm

every site seems to have a different weight for the f-35a, i think it would take an email to get the latest prediction
but you would need to add the wight of a lightning pod to the tiffy for a start,
what else is basic on f-35 and added to tiffy ?
