get back on track? only under a revised, less ambitious, testing shedule

isnt there more testing hense the extra test planes ?
as well as the 3bn there is a reduction till 2015, to pay for extra test, which can go back into production when sorted
2013 is still the date for ioc f-35a
which may or may not happen, new planes being delayed, not something new
if you’re a rafle or tiffy fan, same thing happened
aussies want 14 test ones to a total 72 for 2018, should be sorted by then dont you think ?

So the Rafale bid is NOT riding in the best of its possibilities at this stage, the longer the delay in announcing, it the worse it gets for Dassault.

If the news you get doesn`t suit your personal wishes unfortunately there is nothing you can do to make your dreams turn into the real truth.

    Regards,

    Hammer

if rafale doesnt win brazil, it also puts in doubt a few other potential customers who are sitting back waiting for a secure future for it, as i see it, without enough units built to offset development and future upgrade costs, it will be a very expensive plane for france

so? how many MICAs were fired on real targets? nad when F-35 comes to service, thingies like the meteor would have been in se’rvice for several years already, much better weapon.

you do realise that the meteor is going to be fitted to the f-35 dont you ?
and if indeed it is a better weapon, a lot of countries will use it

The 5th generation will be known in the future as the ‘lost generation’

is that because 4gen cant find them ? or that its like the uk and french subs, they only know they are there when they run into each other

my reservation on ru/ch is hitting the mark with a first build 5th gen, the yanks are building on a base of several

the eu benifits as a whole with decent defense, it seems reasonable they all put in an equal share of gdp to defense and in particular, a 5/6 gen plane and it be run by an eu team rather than a couple of countries trying to keep everything in their backyard

and guessing the outcome of ru and ch 5th gens and the euro’s, how would you list them

I’ve said before I don’t think it will happen until there is a need, and at that point govt’s would be willing to cough up the money.

The way i’d like to see it, and think it’d work best, would be one or 2 partners coming together to design it an act as launch customers, then the other nations who need it can simply buy it or negotiate for sub-assembly or offsets. If you have lots of nations in the design stage the aims become too diffuse and costs/time/problems go up.

i think a united eu is needed and a pool of money collected with profit offsets from those doing the work back to observers
one or 2 countries arent going to be able to generate the funds needed to develop a decent 5/6 gen plane

and you think f-35 isnt num 2 because ? and what is your opinion on the order ? assuming as said china will have 5th gen this decade

Oh, but of course the eurocanards have >0,1rcs. Especially that Rafale with that permenantly attached refueling probe is quite stealthy. Or the typhoon with the fan blades in public view. Or the Gripen, with all those antennas hanging around. Sure, no question about that. How stupid the american are, they spent tons of billions of $$$ in designing clean configurations.

ouch, that hurt a few, 😮
i think the euro’s , f-16,18 rcs is measured in meters in mission config and not parts of meters
the fa-18, rafale and ef all claim to be the lowest 4gen rcs only one is right and thats restricted and my guess is its 1-5 meters at least in mission fitout

Half of the Army Aviation was rejected in the evaluations, Super Puma, Cougar and even the Tiger were rejected and bought by politicians, after the Tiger issue, politicians opted for another method, no evaluations at all…NH-90…always the same issue with french equipment. At least the Army managed to get T-700 engines this time.

the same thing happened in australia, whether its just a like what they have now and just wanted new models, but we went with tigers and nh-90 and it seems that will be the better choice in the end, its just that they are so slow getting to FOC, probably because of the financial crisis, where the builders just dont have sufficient funds to get all done what is needed to, i think the future of tiger and nh-90 looks bright

who is dismissing a2a threats ?
an updated version of the iraq battles will show how they are handled
along with f-35 in self escorting strike config, if the planners felt that f-35’s dedicated a2a config to fly escort is needed, that is indedd what would happen, along with all the other systems support to the mission

is there any doubt that the f-35 will be the number 2 behind the f-22 in a2a, and later we can put the new russian craft in 3rd and probably the new chineses in 4th, i dont know what your favorite plane is, but i guess it isnt any of these

That means that not only F-35, but even Raptor are not meaningfully better than a clean F-16 Block 50. Given the fact that today’s Vipers lag behind early models due to weight, it could be that F-22 is actually inferior to F-16A in turning at higher gs ? Well, at least sounds pretty much like that…

What missiles? If we talk about fighting adversary LO and VLO designs, then you can basically forget AMRAAM and BVR. Suddenly maneuverability becomes very relevant.

Well, unless you want to tell me that F-35 is only suitable for fighting against legacy threats..

as near as i can figure, they dont think top speed is important, the f-15 was 2.5 and in 30 yrs they can count in minutes it exceeded 1.3
dogfighting is also discounted with hobs and hms
but the carrier version C with bigger wing area would be the most agile of the 3, i guess and no one is ordering that over the A so they can get more maneuverability

now i dont know about you, but i think usa is quite capable of designing a mach 3 dogfighter, if that was the goal, dont you

i accept what you’re saying, but it is maneuverable and it does have the best to date, sensor fusing to a systems battlespace
either its going to be a decent ‘plane in system’, or all the experts and country evaluations are wrong
at this point of time, i am backing those that should know
