I have an air almanac at home, I am at work right now until tomorrow morning, as soon as I get a chance I’ll see if I can work it out for you
D.
Pileus caps are mainly ice crystals which form at relatively high level? i.e. cirroform above convective activity?
This Lenticular was much much lower than that, and slightly downwind of the hills involved, I am waiting to hear back from our MET guy from my ATPL studies, he’ll comfirm once he has received it

Cheers Tom
The examples on Google are alot more “severe”, which is typical of the weather phenomena you get in other countries
they don’t have to, they have to be within 60 deg of runway heading to intercept the ILS
Here’s a few trying to re-enact the A380 flight from above Filton to Heathrow
Descending on the ILS, 8 miles to run

200ft, go around, TOGA power, gear up

270 degree left turn to fly to the overhead (this is what really happened)

After 3 more fly pasts including another approach, en-route to Heathrow via WOTAN & L9 at FL80

On descent to BIG for left base 27L, speedbrakes the only way to prevent speed build-up

4 miles to run, at Vref, a few Cbs to deal with

1 & half miles to run

Fraction high over the threshold, UA 744 waiting to line up

Full reverse & spoilers, I WILL make that intersection 😀

Parked at T3 next to the Virgin 340s, don’t they look small

Great pics all
My goodness BigJet, 10 deg nose down profile on finals, your Cheif pilot will be doing his nut 😉

Hi James
Thanks, the 380 was extremely quiet (in Jet Engine terms), it really was quite surprising
Tartan you’re all heart, what would we do without you
Here are the 1st batch from Filton, apologies for the quality of some, it come over REAL dark during the last approach then after it had departed for Heathrow the heavens opened for a good half hr, good timing me thinks

And the 2nd approach to runway 27

Jamie our local news said it was to fly over Filton about 12pm, then fly over Bristol City etc and then another fly past of Filton about 12:30 before heading off to Heathrow
