Well done Neal, excellent mate, you now have your QCC to look forward to soon
Best of luck
Dean
of course he could always purchase someone else’s “unfinished” project 😉
The Europa is a nice a/c, I see a few unfinished Europas advertised in the GA mags from time to time

The problem the CAA has is people like you who can do nothing but criticise, you seem to spend your time looking for the bad in everything and not concentrating on the good, give them a break, get off their backs.

As long as this isnt a diabolical scheme to get rid of LARS then I guess I cant see the harm in it, but on the other hand if its a nationwide frequency (which obviously it is) then Im just a bit concerned with the comments above about some a/g stations will vanish and this could overall effect safety, if at weekends (the busiest time for GA) you switch to SafetyCom and you cant get a word in edgeways I wonder how many pilots will say “ah well, it doesnt matter if I dont broadcast” and then inadvertantly end up colliding with someone turning finals etc. Keeping a good lookout is obviously paramount in the circuit (as it is in all stages of flight) but when flying to an a/g aerodrome its still comforting when you call finals to hear “G-ABCD winds 100/100 no known traffic.

Excellent photos again, there is an L1011 that flies into Filton now and again and I can see it on base leg from my parents house sometimes, looks like some kind of government plane or RAF one, I will try and keep a camera handy to snap it, very nice to see some in service still
Dean
Excellent report and photos mate, keep them coming 🙂

I would say go with the one that would suit you best, i.e. airport proximity, the aircraft you feel comfortable in etc, talk to the CFI of both schools and try to gain a feeling for which one you would also settle into better, theres no point going to one which you think is the best and then find you cant hit it off with the instructors etc, classic example is the school i learnt with, they are geared towards IR & CPL so PPL was low on the list of their priorities, I would say try and fly the older PA-28s as I would detract anyone away from using GPS etc whilst they are under instruction as this “can” aid taking away the fundamentals of flying, and its at early PPL stage where you need to be doing things “hands on”, Im pretty sure the instructors wouldnt be so stupid as to let you loose on the GPS but you never know, if the temptation is there to use it then it can be used, the PA-28 is quite a forgiving plane to fly especially the Warriors as they are beautiful to land whereas Ive heard some horror stories about the high wing Cessna’s, I would also recommend flying from an international airport as I do as flying in Class D airspace is a great learning factor and makes it less daunting especially when doing your QCC for the 1st time, make sure you ask both flying schools what the hourly rate includes etc i.e. brakes off to brakes on, landing fees etc as you may well know landing fees at international airports are alot steeper than their general aviation counterparts.

Anyone see that program on Discovery the other night called Flight 11 The Final Moments (or something similar)?
Was absolutely chilling, those poor stuardesses, it was such a good program I thought I was actually on the plane which made it hit home even more. 🙁
RIP
