Are you sure about these figures for the NPPL? those figures sounds like the JAR PPL, I thought the NPPL had lower values like a MTOW of 2000kg.
Correct me if Im wrong please, its 2am and I cant be bothered to troll through the CAA website hehe. 🙂

Excellent news, I love their Dash8-Q400’s, I have a flight on friday from BRS, gotta take my mate and his wife up so I will try and get some snaps if Im delayed on the ground long enough (delayed 27 minutes last week for T/O clearance) 😀
Any idea what equipment they’ll be using?

Doesn’t an initial medical also include an ECG?

And come to think of it Moggy now you said I do vaguely recall being wired up to an ECG monitor, cos it bloody hurt when he ripped off the pads 😀 LOL

I bought the Virgin 747-400 Lady Penelope from Ebay and it cost me about £40, it is rare, I think the harder one to come by is Tubular Belle,
I just bought the Virgin 747-400 and A340-600 metal the other day for £30 each inc p&p, beautiful they are too 😀
I so need to add to my collection but every £100 I spend on Geminis is 1 hours less flying time :/ got to be sensible I suppose 😡

Air Charter/Taxi work is still classified as a “Revenue Earning Flight” is it not? if so then regardless of whether the pilot is paid or not still constitutes the pilot needing a CPL?
It sounds like your uncle did this a long time ago if he’s ex BA? (correct me if Im wrong), Also what were to happen if you took a client somewhere and the weather closed in and you ran into IMC? not a good situation to be in, and someone correct me if Im wrong again but to do Air Charter/taxi work do you not need 700hrs PIC?
Robert, have you downloaded LAZORS from the CAA website? if not mate I would consider doing so and having a very good study, all your answers would be within although admittedly LAZORS can be a tad ambiguous at times.

Just concentrate on your education for now mate, that is very important, becoming a pilot is a long hard road and you would be wise to have something to fall back on incase it all goes the wrong way for you, if you are planning on trying to get a sponsorship then make sure you check the airline selection criteria because I know when I applied to Britannia 2 years ago they specified no more than 30 hrs flying time so obtaining a PPL would be no good for you.
To get your fATPL you need a PPL, IMC (you dont really need an IMCR), NightR, MER, IR, CPL, and of course your 14 ATPL ground exams, to be considered for a job it is common to have to have MCC and JOT on your licence too, and the way the industry is going i can see you will need a TR with line experience within a couple of years, at least thats what I gleaned from the owner of Astraeus.
Dean. 🙂
p.s. you need to “unfreeze” your fATPL within 7 years of issue, if not your ATPL ground exams will expire, to unfreeze your fATPL you need 1500 hrs, good luck 🙂
Whoever told you it costs £300,000 is pulling your leg, if you were to do an intergrated course you can expect to pay between £60,000 – £80,000 and if you decided modular is the way for you then you can expect this to cost in the region of £30,000 – £35,000.
FlyBE have not sponsored pilots in a long time, Britannia are sponsoring at the moment but applications are closed for this year, EasyJet sponsor too but use CTCMcAlpine and you are bonded if you get through.
Im afraid in this current economic climate its going to be tough for anyone, with so little sponsorship places around the competition is going to be high, and you have to ask yourself why should they take you on as opposed someone else, what do you offer the airline thats more attractive. Its the same with me, Im 31 now, and I have to self sponsor, I know Im probably too old but if I dont do it I dont want to get to 45 yrs old and say “if only Id tried” and I know once i get my fATPL its going to be tough for me to offer the airline something over and above someone young with a university degree etc.
Good luck 🙂
