    Moggy

I fly from Bristol International and I have got myself in strife a few times when I was training by not doing the downwind touch and go call, whilst cleared to finals I called finals touch and go, and ATC have said, oh, your doing more circuits? in that case cleared touch and go with a left turn out, surface winds xxx.

As for CAP413 I guess everyone is taught the phraseology needed for their specific airport, this is how I was taught at Bristol and like Ive stated Ive deviated from this and ATC got a bit funny with me so I just stick to what I have been taught.
I suppose as long as you state your intentions clearly then there wont be any problems

    Best regards

I can understand your frustrations at not being able to obtain a Class 1 (your other thread) it seems you are trying to substitute this into doing something which resembles having a commercial licence, just remember if anyone is going to pay for the aircraft hire (i.e. you fly it and they pay) then they can only pay a portion relative to the amount of peolpe in the plane at the time if you only have a PPL, i.e. if you take 2 passengers then then 1 passenger can pay NO MORE than 33% each, as if they did this would constitute you as being paid for the flight which is blatently a constraint of the PPL and illegal

    Guys

Just remember when your doing circuits you must state intentions on downwind, i.e. G-ABCD downwind for touch and go, then ATC wont give you a landing clearance but a touch and go clearance, G-ABCD cleared for touch and go surface wind blah blah blah, if they give you clearance to land then it is to land, i.e. land, clear runway and taxi back, so when you are on your last circuit you call G-ABCD Downwind to land then ATC know your intentions, also if its busy they may tell you your circuit direction especially if they want you to change direction from your last circuit

    hope this helps

u must bear in mind this is the modular route, i.e. home study and not doing full time ground school

check Bristol Ground School at http://www.bristol.gs/
and for Bristol Flying Centre http://b-f-c.co.uk

gees I hope this isnt advertising, mate if this gets deleted just PM me and I will email you the info

There are other places cheaper than Bristol for your flying although their IR is very competitive, i would say the best thing to do is to buy a few of the GA magazines and look in the back, there are some excellent prices quoted in there, the best and cheapest way to hour build to get the 150hrs needed to start your commercial flying training is probably take a couple of 2 week trips to the states or buy your own plane or at least a share in one, you can always offload it afterwards.
I will try and find time to compile a portfolio of the cheapest way to obtain the CPL/IR fATPL bearing in mind cheapest is never usually the best, as for the ATPL people rave about Bristol/gs
check the Pprune aviation forum for some excellent hands on comments about FTOs

There are obviously other schools around other than Oxford, Oxford is deemed to be “one” of the most expensive, you can do your Flight Training at Bristol, Bristol Ground School will get you through your ATPLs for £1900 and Bristol Flying Centre is right next door, they can do your IR for £10,000 which is excellent, you can also choose the modular route which will work out about £30,000 – £35,000 for CPL/IR fATPL which is a substantial saving on Oxford, it just depends on what way you want to go about it, do you want to earn money whilst studying? if so do the modular which takes a while longer but if you can afford full time study then this is better for obvious reasons.
