At the expense of everything and everyone around him, including his pilots & cabin crew? Now other major LCCs are following suite and our terms & conditions are plummeting as a result? The list is endless. That’s just not right Rob.
All he has done is open the window for CHAVS to fly to their chavtastic destinations such as Benidorm, yadda yadda.

I hope Boeing tells him to stick his money where the sun doesn’t shine, this type of bully boy tactics should not work. Fingers crossed Boeing won’t be held to ransom. He did this after 9/11, I can’t see Boeing lying down so easily this time.

That’s ok, appreciated, I am reasonably experienced when it comes to PCs and I have tried to build my own before but ended up buying one “off the shelf” as I could not match the price.
I guess alot depends on what machine you are building and how much patience you have 😉

    are you experience with PCs?

if so, id reccomend building your own tower, will be usually 2/3 cheaper than one off the shelf 😀

Not always the case (pardon the pun) Nashio.

Well here’s my spec mate, and I am running FSX with all sliders maxed out.

AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core (2.5GHz)
    4GB Memory
    Windows Vista 64 bit
    Nvidia GEForce 9600GT Gfx Card

I suppose you could work backwards from this, considering I have all sliders maxed out then if you look at anything similar to this then you should be ok.

Obviously alot depends on budget, I would hate to tell you to buy something and it turns out to be a dud, so anything I say that is ok please do some more research. The Avsim forums are a great place to source info.

Getting back to the PC, the more memory the better, so 4GB is the way forward, but ensure you don’t get 4GB with a Windows XP operating system because I am led to believe XP can’t utilise it.
Also if you could possibly get a system with a gfx card that is DX10 compatible then you are on to a winner. FSX is optimised for Vista 64 bit and DX10.

I got my PC from Mesh for £600.

I’m not too sure to be honest, I would say it should run “ok” at best, but this will be with a fair few sliders more to the left than the right. Then you won’t get the benefit of FSX.
The processor looks very weak to me, a 5200 dual core? When I was sourcing a new PC I was looking at a 9+ dual core, I ended up with a quad core. Also I would stay well clear of anything with an integrated gfx card if you want to run FSX.

On the whole, I would say it should run ok, but I think you’ll have a few issues with performance based on the processor and integrated gfx card.

Whatever you do get your education first, the aviation industry is very fickle, and very volatile, I am flying for a reasonably safe airline yet we wonder every week whether our jobs will be here this time next week.

As for doing your ATPLs, timing is everything, on a personal level I don’t think the good times will be here again for the 150/200hr wannabe for years to come. Firstly nobody is recruiting at the moment (as you’d expect), infact I personally think it’s going to be a bloody winter for the airline industry, a couple of major airlines are expected to go under. There are hundreds, if not thousands of unemployed pilots right across Europe with the right to live and work in Europe. When the good times arrive these guys will need vacuuming back into the system, this could take 18 months, or longer.

What I am saying is that if you want to do your ATPLs then you need to time it right so that you finish training at the start of boom time. Do your research, make up your own mind, but whatever you do, get an education.

As soon as (when, not if 😉 ) this thread degenerates into smut, it disappears 🙂
