If it was in China I’d be thinking Stirling bits.

How did it happen that “the anti nuclear lot banned certain aircraft from appearing at a display”? Surely it it up to airshow organisers who they book to appear at their events. Where and when was this so-called ‘ban’ imposed?

Norwich, when they used to have airshows, I believe the ban on nuclear capable aircraft was imposed by the (labour) council. This was 80s/90s from memory.

I would suggest a question asked with the benefit of 64 years of hindsight…………

    Planemike

Or even 66 years of hindsight 🙂

I believe the wing of the Dornier 217 survives, although I’m not sure where. I do remember reading about it somewhere, maybe 10 years ago. Anyone know where it might be now?

I was there too. Of course, of course I had the wrong lens on (50mm) as I was photographing the static at the time IIRC. Did take a couple of pics of the smoke and the rescue helicopter that was first on scene. Scary stuff. The wreckage of the cockpit section of one of the MiGs was (and presumably still is) on display at the Fenland & West Norfolk Aviation Museum.

I think Hughes was looking to the Pacific war, where airfield were few, but water was plentiful. The Japanese made a lot of use of their flying boats for supply missions, H6K and H8K versions.

Interesting to hear about the A1073. I live near there, and have never heard of this before. Does anyone have more details of dates, types of vehicle etc, and are there any photos in existence?

Of course, with no Canadian pine to protect them, they will be rusty not shiny by now!

As a lot of this road is now bypassed, maybe a recovery could be looked into, depending on what is buried there. Not really aviation I know, but another area of interest and you never know, maybe a Queen Mary trailer buried there with a Stirling on 🙂

Airfix Spitfire IX JEJ for me too. Followed by a Revell Fokker Dr.1 and then an Airfix Fw190D-9. The FW was the one that I painted, and I think I still have it somewhere.

Still modelling after all these years (at least 40!).

Does anyone else have scans of “authenticated” examples of Bader’s handwriting for comparison purposes?

Haven’t a clue as to what’s been going on, but glad we have our key figures back. From where I know not!

Have they been to incommunicado, and are there any buried crates there?

    🙂

Welcome back, all three of you. Well done to the level-headed mods who kept a sense of perspective. 🙂
