thought the WALRUS was still moving forward!!
Only if they put the engine on facing backwards! Otherwise it’d be a Seagull (sort of, if they leave the top wing off too). 🙂

I read the story of a Skua (or possibly a Fulmar) that was guiding Hurricanes from the Ark Royal to Malta. When the aircraft took off it found it could not retract the u/c. Knowing that he would run out of fuel and have to ditch in the sea, but also knowing that the Hurricanes would not be able to find Malta and would just circle the carrier until they also ditched as they had been ordered to wait for the Fulmer / Skua, he decided to fly close enougth to Malta for the Hurricanes to navigate on their own and then ditched.
Pretty brave if you think about it. Don’t know what happened to the crew?
Why didn’t they land at Malta too? Or, why not land back on the carrier? After all, the U/C was down.
Confused?
Any ideas what they were doing?
Off to jersey it seems, lucky people!

Lanc, spit & Tornado
Lancaster, Spitfire and Tornado, 5 minutes ago, just outside Peterborough. Any ideas what they were doing?
You see!!, you read my mind, in the Sir Roy Dobson hangar there is an Avro York under construction with a large pile of Stirling bits being catalogued as their next major build. A Short Sturgeon is undergoing its final coat of paint and a Bristol Brigand is awaiting the fitting of its no2 engine. Meanwhile above the noise of the airtools being used on the DH Hornet wing the unmistakable sound of the Victor circling overhead ready to join the Nuclear Deterrent trio flight of Vulcan ,Victor and Valiant to close the days display flying. And OK theyve totally blown the budget but what are dreams made for? As Willy Wonka once said….. A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men!
You forgot the massed flypast by ex Burmese Spitfires!
anyone care to join me and look in the other hangar?;)
Wouldn’t the other hangar be filled with Stirling components from China?
DC 2 1/2
Not to mention the DC-2/3 hybrid (DC2 1/2)

I suspect people aren’t commenting because they don’t have any 7F1 parts to donate – and the thread does start “WANTED”.
Lovely build by the way, and (dare I say it)…. more interesting than a Spitfire cockpit!
Please don’t delete the thread, and keep the photos coming.

Fingers crossed for the pilot, I guess quite likely to have been flying the Bronco at Waddington.
Afterburners
No afterburners on a Vulcan, but I do know what you mean if she does fly again then the lets see a spirited display for her last flight, but I hope to see her fly again for at least another year.
They could, if they could fit ex Concorde afterburning olympus 593 engines. Must be a few of those about 🙂
Update from VTTS website
Engine Damage Update
May 29th
The failure occurred in the two port side engines (1 & 2) on the ground as the aircraft was easing towards full power at the start of her take-off roll. She is now back in her hangar where the technical team will investigate the problem. Our initial thought is that the symptoms are very much like those experienced when something is ingested by an engine so we will be investigating all possible sources. We would like to thank Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (RHADS) for their immediate assistance and professionalism yesterday.
We will provide further updates when we know more.
Many thanks for supporting Vulcan XH558
Let’s hope it’s nothing too serious, hoping she makes Waddington
Now that would be a photo I’d be jealous of- share!
And from 2009 ….
Now that would be a photo I’d be jealous of- share!
Of course, my pleasure :).
Not my best photo, but proves I was there 🙂
