Soviets did have steamcatapult-fitted aircraftcarrier projects since the 50’s starting with the pr. 85 design. Several other later projects including the “Orels” eg. pr. 1153 and 1160 did feature normal CATOBAR arragment.

The reasons why these designs didn’t came into existence had nothing to do with the failure of producing steam catabults but due the continious struggle inside the Soviet navy of the neccerity of aircraft carriers at all.

Kuznetsov did feature CATOBAR arragment in it’s initial appearance but the actual ship as we known was completed with the STOBAR arragment. This was again not becouse of failure in the steam-catapult technology but political choise of fielding Yak-41’s as the ships main aviation element (which didn’t need catabults). It was after the adaption of the Ski-jump when the soviet realised that conventional high-thrust-to-weight jets could take of using the ski-jump as well. And thus MiG-29 and Su-27K became included to the possiple airgroup.

Ulyanovsk was real project, it building was started in 1988 but it just never managed to finish before the break-up of the Soviet Union. It was to feature both the Ski-jump in the bow and steam-catabults in the angled flight-deck again due the fact that Soviets belived that the Yak-41 “miracle” VSTOL plane would be the ideal choise for carrier operations. The catabults in Ulyanovsk were mostly for the Yak-44 but most likely would have been used by Su-27K’s as well.

I was 16 year old back then…DL….something:rolleyes:…from the internet quite long hour that day, only went to open TV when the Buildings started to collapse, and I honestly first thougth it was some movie trailer, as it felt so unbelievable at first.

Today, I cant remember any other day, that I would remember spesifically from the fact that what was on TV that day…And I never forget the sense of “what will happen next?” feeling that sort of rose from the very bottom of my guts after I had realised what had taken place.

Those unarmed civilians were quite happy to throw rocks, stones, petrol bombs and anything else they could find at the soldiers.
It’s also highly likely that one or more were armed with pistols as was so often the case in such instanced through then entire conflict.
You’d know that, if you had a clue about the subject you’re talking about.

Rocks, stones and even petrol bombs…against 7.62mm full metal jacket??

    It’s soldiers killing unarmed civilians.

There is hardly anybody here who isn’t condemning the events of Bloody Sunday

Aside those who have awnsered after when I asked my question….
