You should be well aware that by 1945 soviet land forces were of exceptional quality, Quality + Quantity beats Quality on its own every time.;)

well yeas, thougth they didn’t manage to beat us;)
But anyway at 1945 that quality didnt counted much anymore, and it was still the quantity in 1942-1943 that made the tide turn.

Stalin had a similar problem with distinguishing the quantity (of military divisions) with the quality. Hitler gave him a rude shock.

And yet that quantatity eventually beat the crap out of Hitler’s quality;)

I dont know about others, but Here in Finland, the choise of conscription comes from pure fact that there isent any other solution to build up a reasonable size army from population of 5 million people. In generally its a good solution, not only that it have had its huge internal political role in the past and as IMO its pretty good education upbinging to every young man to go into army…

But modern warfare puts this system into test when high tech equipment beguns to get more and more role in warfare, and the limited conscription period doesent give enough time to forge real professionality in some branches.

Interesting choice of example countries you’ve used – against which country do you think Sweden and Finland’s militaries mostly expect to defend themselves from?

NATO invasion coming from Leningrad MD;) 😉

I did hear many years ago the Nazi swastika is actally the mirror image of a religious(?) symbol that means good luck.

Is this true or was I fed bull?

It has many purposes, Usually it means sun in european cultures, and in finnish mythology its assosiated to the thunder god, and Hindu’s and Budhas use it as a symbol of happines. It was in all a good symbol before nazis ruined it.
