But as of 2007 (I belive that the orginal claim was that in year 2007 Russians managed to reach Soviet level scale of launching warships)??

But I admit, Im not that underwater oriented, but if you would, could you list the hulls that have been launched during Russian reing?

    Thanks in advance

i’m not sure the Russians have anything to gloat about when it comes to military hardware being useable – just look at there most recent exercises in the med where one of thier ships was sinking and had to be rescued and towed home, not to impressive that…

Exept that the Amur class in question was about 40 years old (when its Ok to be grumpy with your engines) And build in poland;) So not so clever there Jon, migth do beter research next time…

As for Dionis claim that Russians are pouring hulls like in soviet days, I have to say that its not true – and oh, dear, Im now on lawrence’s side:eek: – to my knowlidge, the Russians launched only one major surface combatant, that was the pr.2238 class patrol ship, aka small frigate type and the Borey and (I migth be wrong with this one) One lada or Amur class diesel sub…

And when this comes from such “fanboy” like I am to russian/soviet navy (and artillery), can we leave this matter?

As this is already out there, why not confusing the stuff little bit…

…What gives the forumlingers capacity to estimate the capabilities in the first place? Just out of curiosity, where do you guys base these various “obinions”?

The idea that what ever your country (or the country where you want to be, or more properly the country that you wish to represent but not actually be there…;) ) does is better than the arch enemies of your country? Facts and figures read and comprehensed according to your own likes from various “sources”? Your likes and dislikes towards some other forumers persona and therefore you just have to agree/disagree wath ever they say?

How many actually bases their obinions about some system or overall arsenal of some country to some actual practical experiences? How many have actually enjoyed the benefit to operate similar systems from both competive blocks and therefore able to make at least subjective comparisons based on the stuff that actual matters??

    Just out of curiosity…

    Kirov (Lazarev) and SSV-33: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.92…z=17&t=h&hl=en
    Piotr Velikiy here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=69.08…z=17&t=h&hl=en
    Nakhimov here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=64.58…z=17&t=h&hl=en
    Ushakov here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=64.57…z=17&t=h&hl=en

Not sure about Ushakov and Nakhimov, who’s who.
Name of Ushakov i think is taken by one of the remaining Sovremenny. (Source warfare.ru)

Where are you seeing the second Kirov in “Vladivostok area” ?

Of those, in the first link, the ship is Admiral Lazarev, or Frunze as its was orginally named. The seccond link truley shows Petr Velikiy. The third link shows Admiral Ushakov or more properly the Kirov herself which should be easy to spot from the two Ak-100s in the stern…The fourth link shows Admiral Nahkimov, or Kalinin as it is in Severodvinsk.

In Vladivistoks reign there indeed is two Kirovs but that should be impossible as only the Frunze should be there. Both ships shows single AK-130 in the stern which makes them both being one of the three latters. Due the inaccuracy of the google earht, 100% solid awnser I cannot give but i belive that the ship is Frunze in both cases. If you look closely to the superstructual extensions which holds two Ak-630 in both sides of the “VLS field youll notice that the two ships in Vladivostok have similar clean bulks as in Kirov and Frunze. The other two with Ak-130, Kalinin and Petr Velikiy have Kortik modules on those extensions in place of AK-630 and the blocks of those are regocnizable from the Severodvinks and Severomorsk units. Thus its 98% that both ships are indeed the one and the same, Admiral Lazarev (Frunze). It’s being moved from one location to another and the as some of the areas are updated and some are not and thus its showes in two locations at the same time.

By no means there isen’t any fifth unit of that class.

Discussing? Well pardon me but that what those two guys are doing has nothing to do with discussions.

And yeas this is a forum and for that factor alone, that type of unpleasent, unconstructive, childish and plain idiotic penis-meassurement contest should be left out from it. We others would like to enjoy good discussions about Russian naval issues but these two have highjacked this thread for “it is-it is not” type of mambojamo. If you enjoy reading it and follow it be my quest but don’t force us others to do the same.

So lets put up an adress; For those who wishes that Sealordlawrence and Dionis takes their “discussion” somewhere else please sighn your name

    I start it

And what proof you have that the proof of the proofs are true? Or the sources of the sources?

For cry out loud you can continue this pissing contest of yours under that logic until one of you drops death. And I think that there aren’t many here that wishes to withness that. So please continue this in PMs and leave this thread alone.

bit of a contradiction in terms dont you think? Right wing & Liberal…enough to get you unelected in the States!

I dont know about US but in here, liberals are classed as rigth-wingers…neo-liberalism the current dogma of imperialism is IMO all what rigth-wing is supposed to be like.

Yeas, South Korean naval build up has blossomed quite well and their achievments have been almoust par with Chinese PLANs new desing, despite the huge size differences.
To me, they all (KDXs included) look really “Americanish” just like many japanese newer ships.

What concerns me in that Korean ships, is that IMO they back too much on too small, and thats never recepy for succses. Also, Before that biggest SK build surface ships had been the Ulsan class ligth frigates, so It would have been risky deal to purchase ships before Korean Own navy had any experience wheter their shipyards could come up with succsefull ships.
Ofcourse, the KDX program seems to go on fine, so that migth have been death concern. Also, I agree Lafayettes AD is almoust useless compared to what the Korean ship would have offered. As it came known, the French deal was hampered by mainland opposition, but would that have inflicted to SK ones? Expecially, when the armament fit would have been from US? Im not that big expert on China-Korean relations, but that sure is intresting side note on the Taiwan’s proplematic naval accustion history.

    Soviet Navy Project 1157 Cruiser

Designed in the late 1980s to meet the Russian Navy’s urgent demand to counterbalance the US Aleigh Burke class destroyer, Project 1157 cruiser is equipped with 4 X-band radars, hundreds of missiles including SA-N-24 (sea based S400), 4 Kashtan Air Defence Gun/Missile System, four gas turbines, the ship controls over 300KM radius of battle space with the full speed of 33 knots. Basically, Project 1157 cruiser is a stealth upgrade of the Slava class cruiser, and if the communist Russia ever survived, the Project 1157 cruiser would become the most dreadful surface vessel in the 21st century.

To meet the highest standards of ship modelling and make it compatible to most 3D applications, most details of this ship model are achieved via polygons instead of texture maps, so you can have splendid geometry that contributes to realism at any time.

This has nothing to do with reality, nor the topic of this thread.
Fanart, like it was mentioned, But rather well done.;)

If I recall correctly, these same pictures have been offered for real ones previosly in this forum, back when people could discuss russian military affairs without uselles trolling that seems to have taken all the bandwith:(

I remember reading it from Jane’s book about that.
South Korea offered 16 to Taiwan who needed coastal defense warships like Ulsan derivative.
But French gave big bribe, so Taiwan purchased 6 Lafayette.
I don’t know if this will help, but if you browse Jane’s Navy book from late 80s to early 90s, it mentions in Taiwan category.

yeah I recall that pribe thing, but It didn’t came to my mind that it was related to these projects.
