I recalled reading of this plan in the convays book…It also had some details of older plans, and in those, particullary the ones preceding the principe de asturias mentioned some cruisers (I got the impression, that the idea was revisited for sea controll ship). I’ve always wondered what those would have been like….helicopter carriers or real cruisers:confused: Also, I once read in somewhere else that Spain was also offered Essex class carrier in place of the Dedalo?
If it isent too rude threadjacking, Is there anything more detailed about these considerations?

Well here’s scaled up version of the same plane (note that it is in my imaginary Novgorods colours)

The scale is now 1 pix=0.04 m. I noticed that the drawing is now bit too undetailed but thats only becouse the orginal linedrawing had none what so ever and this is simply scaled up version from the 1pix=0.05m scale version (the one that I posted above)

    So is this large enough?

I’d go for Novi Avion and IAR-95

Well there are some factors which favours the smaller scale however.
Most important is the drawing technique. As its done by MS paint or other bitmap type drawing program, each line is and should be one pixel wide. This requires that the drawings cannot be too small, but also not too large as othervice the lines gets “too thin”

But I will consult other shipbucket drawers if they have any ideas and technique suggestions.

Here’s a prototype drawing which I made a while ago. Don’t mind the colours, they got screwed up due the format change.

Is this scale too small or too large? Obinions and comments appriciated

Well funny that you mentioned but I have been thinging the very same idea. There are even more reference linedrawings of planes than there is from ships to use as a base for the drawings.

I’ve actually have drawn the MiG’s “33” as a prototype for my own idea of “planebucket”. I’ll post it when I get to my flat.

In shipbucket, there is certain rules or more like guides of how to draw things and those could be easily adopted to aircrafts as well. Biggest issue is the scale. Shipbucekt uses 2 pix=1 foot scale which is way too small for planes. All the helicopters for example are drawn in this scale and you can see how small they are. The scale needs to be bigger for this.

Exactly. Olympics spirit has long been lost…There should be games for us amatours as well. I dont want to boach, but with rifle shooting, the olympic limit has been around 580 points from 600, and I have managed to score that in couple of olympiads now. But the change to win a place in the game-plane…:( 🙁

Unfortunetly there is not so much Zep material out there as they tend to take out everything thats posted in youtube under legal reasons. There is however more stuff, but under “secret names” and I wont reveal those here in public (don’t want that the greedy layers takes them out as well). If you are interested, PM me and I shall give you the code…

And I suppose that the Russians did not simulate the US naval targets when testing their anti-ship missiles? Instead they use real US carriers/destroyers/frigates? :p

Well ofcourse not, there is the point. Is it really wise to rant so much when all of the best evidence in this case are based on Simulation.
But then again, anyone that has been part of simulated wargames knows that simulating against target is different when simulating against attacker;)

isent eddie participating into veterans World cup games held in this year? Our own legend…well one of them, Matti Nykänen is preparing for the games and I belive that name of Edwards was mentioned when speaking of other participants.

But its shame that UK doesen’t master the skiing sports. But then again that has to have lot to do of the aviability of good ski jumping hills. Sweden, despite adequatly snowed northern country sucks in Skijumping (compared to its neighbours) simply becouse the lack of good hills.

Well the question really is, how well in those NAVSEA test did those drones and replicas imitated the real potential of the russian missiles? From Jonesy’s saying the target drones simulated the flight profiles of the corresponding russian missiles.
Now were the drones 100% exact copies of the russian missiles? Did they perform in all aspect exactly like the russian missiles? I’m not by any means dishmising the test but simulation is simulation, you hardly can rule out some factors completely by them solely. Right?

And lets not forget about Finland…

I recall hazily reading somewhere that the finnish draken pilots didn’t consider the plane as “manuvrable”. If I remember correctly, at least the turning-rate was not so good. But as for the weaponfit, exspecially the ability to engage “nose-to-nose” with missiles was highly praised.
