The best source that I have come across so far is ‘Stalin’s Ocean-Going Fleet: Soviet Naval Strategy and Shipbuilding Programs, 1935-1953’ by J. Rohwer and M. Monakov.

Thats one of the books I really would like to get my hands on…but unfortunetly those type of books are extremely hard to obtain from here:(

I think the numbers that Lawrence quoted came from the Convays 48-95 updated edition

Of the pr.41 I dont think it was poor ship at all, IMO only proplems it had was that the secondaries with their radar where too close to the water splits. To my reasoning it should anything but topweigth (thougth some naval engineers migth know better…) I had got the impression that its cancelation was that someone just decided it was too big, same thing that happened to Kola (pr.42), wich was also “too big” but defianetly lot better ship than the Riga (pr.50) class.

Then moving to the Sovremenny and Udaloy classes originally designated cruisers also but later redesignated as destroyers.

Sovremenyys were to be EM or destroyers from the desing board. The orginal need were new generation of destroyer ASuW and shore bombardment and thus it generated new designation (ironically, old Tsarist era designation was ressuerected). IMO the title RK or RKR were never allocated to them. Soviets had habbit of generating new ship designation when they came up with new concept of ship, unlike westeners who still try to stick new innovations into sail-age ship designations;)
Udaloyos in effect where at the start designated as BPK, as well as their predecedors, the Krestas-IIs and Karas. Only west classed those as cruisers.

well but that would be just idea of duplicating Freddy, isent it? And to me the point of this new queen line up is to do the exact opposite, and I think thats more better approach. By duplicating Freddy, one just denyes the fact that he isent dead, but he is, and nothing can change that. So its time to move on and there is will in Brian and Roger to continue, the best way they can do it is to look onward and do something new that aknowlidges that Freddy isent around anymore.
Its the same thing that the Who did after Keith Moon died, changed the show with drummer and persona wich had nothing to do with Moonie. And it has worked.

But the idea isen’t replace Freddy, but let Rodger and Brian play their songs after so many years. You got to remember that Queen wasen’t just about Freddy, in fact it was orginally set up by the two members continuing today (John Deacon AFAIK is enjoying his retairement days). Why would they be held back by Freddies ghost? If they enjoy doing what they do, then surely they have every right to do it.

As For Paul Rodgers, he is one hell of a singer, definetly belong to the very highest gathegory. One can never replace suchg unique singers like Freddy was, but then again none could replace Paul Rodgers in his own song as well. I Like Free and Bad Company and I like Queen and I recocnize the facts…and this Queen+ Paul Rodgers is the best thing that can come up with that pool.

I was a huge Queen fan back in my youth, but I was always bit alarmed by the Freddies most..well..queeriest manuverings. I digged more about the band itself and mostly Brian Mays work…

Thats the point, the anti- sverdlov designs were all cancelled for monetary reasons, the sinking of a sverdlov would not have stopped that

but where they stopped before this incident or only afterwards?
