It doesen’t matter if you post a list of russian gas turbine ships when none of them has the same GODOG arragement as in 052s.
The arragement calls for two powerfull gasturbines, orginally indended to be LM2500 but they have to substitute for much inferior engines. This wasen’t done becouse they suddenly decided to go for better to worse, but the 1989 incidence in Tiananmen made the US engines unavailable. Thus they had to seddle for two somewhat same class (but with 48 000 hp against the 55 000 hp of LM2500) ukrainian engines.

As the designing of chinese warships, bigger warships is somewhat in the “children’s shoes” as we say here, there really wasen’t any other solution for the new 052B/C class ships. Those ships (or any ships of that size) should have had IMO either GOGAG or GOGOG arragment with four gas turbines, but the limitations in chinese shipbuilding and development area prevented this.

Adding that couple of knots isn’t worth the cost and trouble if not required specifically by operations

Apparently that what chinese are now forced to say and think. But if the solution would have been good, why did those classes ended up with only two ships being build per class? The need for modern DDGs didn’t just suprisingly stopped, nor some equipment change would be the reason for such a long delay (just look the 054A status). It’s quite clear that China isen’t going to replicate that shipdesign any longer and I think thats a good choise.

I’m not sure what problems you guys have with that propulsion… They most likely have their reasons to build it with that propulsion.

Yeas quite forcing reason, it was only availble option. But that doesen’t make it anyway better. The first 052 type destroyer, 112 (luhu class) had two LM2500 gas turbines but when they where unvailable, the seccond ship, 113 had to seddle for two Ukrainian turbines with inferior performance. The unvailability of good enough gas turbines led to the Luhai class which fielded old steam turbines. The steam turbines are even with chinese standarts, an ageing solution so thús they where forced to follow (apparently the chinese shipdesign pace isen’t yet fittted for the rapid need of large surface combatants previously beeing abcent in PLANs plans) the 052 series with the underpowered gasturbine arragment. Altough the gas turbines in 052B/C are improved ones (tough still ukrainian) compared to the 113, they are still underpowered and for example the ships top speed is only 29 knots.

one of the oldest and most succesfull hoax in internets military community. It was said to be a tu-180, soviet shtealth bomber but was in fact photoshoped pic of Tu-160 made by some guy for his quizz…(not me, but some collegue 😉 )

well this migth be rather hard to answer but I will ask it anyway.
Have you got any Idea of how Finland was wieved among the warsav pact countryes? Becouse I remember that during the Prague Spring, someone made demand for Soviets to let Chekoslovakia to be “similary free as Finland is let”. Its unnaturally huge thing for us finns to know wheter we were held as part of the east or west during the cold war. Many westeners have admitted seeing us under Soviet arm, but how about in the East?
