Hopefully, the Rules of Engagement have changed and the French and Italians will demilitarize southern Lebanon.

What ever it takes to make the Israelians (note: the word “Jew” weren’t used)
feel safe….sofar in alone this summer it had taken about 1500 innocent civilian life…

    …prize of freedom, eh?

The fact that Hezbollah moved into southern Lebanon under the noses of the U.N. force is hardly in dispute.

Well what’s the proplem?? The heroic IDF haven’t got any difficoulties to attack against these UN targets in the past so why would you need to care if they can do it in future as well? If Hezbollah uses UN troops as cover, well IDf can do what it best at, fire and kill everything nearby, no matter wheter they where the actual targets or those “used” as a cover…

Well I ment soviet ships generally. In fact I doupt the Kievs had any minerails as, well Aircraft carriers are hardly used as laying mines…

    Here’s a pic of Udaloy…

Those nice (round :p ) blue circles are indicating the Minerails and more properly the exit ramp to lay the mines. If you look any other soviet Frigate destroyer or cruiser (part Kirovs, kuznetsov and Kievs) you’ll noticed the same rails and ramps…

To my knowlidge the Kievs did carry reloads for their missiles, the first and only ships in soviet navy after Kynda class. I can try get “formal” affirmance from some of my books after I get back tomy flat…

Those rails that you ment, You propaply mean minerails. Those are common in almoust all Russian/soviet and Scandinavian navy vessels. They are naturally used to lay minefield…

Gollevainen, I fear that your suggestion of proposing trade union membership would not work in the UK, as membership is not compulsory for UK workers and anyway, it suits the employer to pay less as this of course means less overheads and more profits/turnover. The minimum wage at least ensures that they get more than a pitance (just!), but whatever the pay is it is far more than in their home country.

That’s the whole Idea, it suites very well to the employers to pay less…it’s basicly the not-so-radical alternative for companies fleeing to china or other lowcost countries, but equally dangerous to the working class rights.

If for some crazy instance USA would want to attack against Finland (this is just hypothetical thinking, no need to jump at it) we would be able to deny almoust totally their change of amphibious landing operations and other activities simply by mining the navigable routes of gulf of finland. We did so back in the WWII and the entire soviet baltic fleet was sieged to the Kronstad port from 1941-44.

Mines may be unsexy and not so cool weapons but in coastal naval strategies their value is undeniable. If USA would attack Iran, I predict that (if Iranians figure this out) they can inflict serious damage towards USN vessels trying to enter the Gulf of Persia…

Some day the negelect of minewarfare and it’s threat to the major surface combadants will come back to USN and they will pay great deal of it 🙁

    three/four Tarantul FAC’s and a Krivak

Nope. No Krivaks were exported during soviet days. Warsawa is/was a project 61 Kashin-mod class destroyer. It replaced a Kotlin-Sam class destroyer of similar name in the late eighties when the later had boiler breakdown.
