    unmanned?

They don’t need a new plane – just load up a C17 with MOABs. We have air superiority so no one is going to be bothering this hugely capable machine.

Dunno which is worse: unmanned bombers or ICBMs? The potential for accident is worrying and besides everyone should have the opportunity to sacrifice their lives for their country. The tricky bit is finding anyone worthy enough to die for. Gorgeous George W(armonger), Eric Blair, Golden Brown? Maybe not.

    c130

That’s what the C130 looked like – unusual camo IMO.

    Warthog and helo’s

Read somewhere that the A10 was good against Hinds in exercises.

Problem for it would be lack of appropriate avionics – radar esp.

Sidewinders were probably for anti-helo or opportunistic transports etc. Last ditch self-defence like Nimrod.

    Nice thought tho.

    Cheers chaps!

It is not easy to keep at it… but what keeps me going is trying to pay back the critical few who can and do put stuff up that I enjoy. Have to face facts 90% of folks on the net are ‘passives’.

Check out my stuff on Veoh and Live Video too, for example:

what were they thinking of junking those fine machines… years ago (80s) we went to an airshow there and there were lots of Canberras, Shacks etc. Got some pix somewhere.

love that sound… hate it when they dub muzak on top.

I have very mixed feelings about YT. I had posted hundreds of clips and had well over a million hits… one day I logged on and it was all gone… all that hard work.. no discussion, you’re off and that’s final. A pox on them.

    Another of my vids…

amazing vid IMO, over 300 views but no one can be bothered to rate let laone leave a comment… dunno why I bother.

    mill

Mill? Looks like a barn. Didn’t know it was as old as that and had been part of the airfield.

Were all those woods there during WW2?

    car park

Indeed – most of the cars in the agricultural supplies company’s car park were set afire. Another few yards closer and they would have had it come through the roof. The odd thing is that the building is in the middle of nowhere. The old RAF airfield (not sure of the status of that what with the Tingewick bypass and sunday market) Finmere is about half a mile further NE I think. Probably on Google Earth.
See attachment Zoom out and you can see the old runways and the relatively new bypass. Interesting that the local place name is ‘Barton Hartshorn’. Wasn’t there a Luftwaffe ace called… no, it was Barkhorn… I think.
I did a Google search and it found Curlyboy’s earlier thread.
Some people wondered if the crew were making for the Finmere runway but it seems doubtful.

300k? That would be a very short clip!

You will have to make do with YT etc.

Another forum I use WW2aircraft.net lets you post wmv’s etc.

    kit

I thought it looked familiar. Tornado III maybe?

They also had that CCV Jaguar flying too.

    Oh and the ill-fated F20.

    Born in NP

NP? Know it well – I was born there! There used to be a maternity ward but it is now a housing estate. Likewise the railyard where my dad used to take me along with him to work when he was driving a coal delivery truck. Great memories of getting a look at the footplate on ‘Nobby’ the steam train that ran to and from Wolverton.

I too have a fair number of still pics from Cranfield over the years but lawdy knows where they all are. Organisation and filing have never been one of my strong points.

The first camcorder I ever had a go with was like your dad’s. My mate bought a Sony ‘portable’ – it had a massive battery in a shoulder bag power pack. Nice chap sat in his car recharging the spare while we wandered the soggy static at Mildenhall 82.

Mind you my ‘modern’ Sony c/c is still a battery eater. I have now got one that lasts a Duxford day trip (but I still take a spare and don’t use the screen much).

    74?!

Wow that’s a lot of expensive machinery gone for a burton. Hopefully the old Martin Baker made sure the fatalities were far fewer.

I wonder how it compares to its contemporaries like the Hun and F104? Let alone those Sov deathtraps (ask the IAF!).
