Quote:Most of the preservation movement is comprised of doddery old gits, and I include myself in that category so I’m allowed to say it. We need younger people to come into the movement if it is to survive. Many active preservationists start as collectors but how the hell can they at these prices? They’ll take one look and go back to their play stations or nintendos or whatever. The same items can be found much more cheaply at aerojumbles but the potential new people will never know because this will put them off attending.[/QUOTE]
I totally agree …I have recently sold a mass of ex museum ‘stuff’ at a Shoreham and through the evil bay. Silly prices are just not affordable unless it’s an old git (like me) with a couple of bob, and just wants to own it for a while. Dealers will tell you what it’s worth and thats where I sold most of my nice bits. 3 ejector seats for £1200, Gypsy 6 in bits £400, 2 blade wooden WW1 £450. Right or wrong those were sum of the prices, and all gone to good homes….but some of the things on here..well you need another mortgage, and they have just gone up and will continue…oh dear!..grumpy old man syndrome coming on…I’ll get me coat……
I had to remind myself about this advanced piece of aviation genius …Dooooh !!
I think you may assume this is a mighty task – dedicated lifting frame, marine recovery contracts, reception, dismantling, stabilisation etc.
I get the feeling this is all moving along nicely. 🙂

For me, Mk12, the wise owl of this forum, has said all that is available at the moment.
I am content….
Oooh!! you are nawty Andrew….you know perfectly well that it is due to arrive on Hastings beach early next week, and then into your back garden a few days later. I heard you have adapted your swimming pool to submerge it for de-salination, and viewings for unsuccessfull Burmese Spitfire buyers will commence at the weekend !!!
L1965 I think I may have a cuff link with that number on the back….I’ll go and….get my coat.
Good news Tim…best wishes on your road to a full recovery…………

We still know very little of the personnel suffering of so many civilians in occupied Europe during and after WW11……so many tragedies ………do our younger generation, here in the UK, understand or even care ?
Usworth and Acklington were the RAF’s real front line – none of your Biggin Hill and Manston malarcky…they were just decoys! :p
My Gawd!!!…all that work and research by so many boffins…all a waste of time…it was all in the Hitler diaries, scoffed by so many to so many….Sealion in Northumberland. of course!!!!!
Well at least we can look forward to endless (mindless) hours of repetative theories and TV programmes from all the well known sourses…just like the horrendus accumalation of ‘sameness’ filling our screens at the moment called ‘Titanic’..
I would like to be used by Nigella Lawson if it’ll help!!
I don’t think you are aerodynamically suited to fly, but there might be some parts of you usefull enough for Nigella to chew on !!!!
Perhaps they were at the auction….!!!!!?????
Pilots of No. 303 (Polish) Squadron RAF with one of their Hawker Hurricanes, October 1940.
A group of pilots of No 303 Polish Fighter Squadron RAF walking toward the camera from a Hawker Hurricane after, purportedly, returning from a fighter sortie. Left to right, in the front row are; Pilot Officer Mirosław Ferić, Flight Lieutenant John A Kent (Commander of ‘A’ Flight), Flying Officer Bogdan Grzeszczak, Pilot Officer Jerzy Radomski, Pilot Officer Witold Łokuciewski, Pilot Officer Bogusław Mierzwa (obscured by Łokuciewski), Flying Officer Zdzisław Henneberg, Sergeant Jan Rogowski and Sergeant Eugeniusz Szaposznikow. In the centre, to the rear of this group, wearing helmet and goggles is Flying Officer Jan Zumbach.
Hey Tim!! long time no speak, but good memories of earlier days….have faith..believe in your own strength…draw help from all of those around you.
I have been there, and am still here….good luck and my thoughts are with you..

Replica Colditz glider crashes !!
Quote:
‘The radio-controlled replica, which was piloted by a dummy, had soared from the roof above the main chapel. But it crash-landed and the body was decapitated, suggesting the escapees who would have piloted the a/c would have died.’
A reasonable assumption from the off, I would suggest !!
‘Miserable beggers’…………..don’t get me started !!!!!!!!!!!!!
