Did nobody even save a rivet from which it could be reborn?

I’ve got to say I’m always suspicious of photographs that show a V1 in its terminal dive in perfect profile!

I think the pic. is authentic…

It appears to be an ex Imperial War Museum cast off…..but I know what you mean !!!! Perhaps they had a ‘fake’ department to let the Jerries know they were on target !!!

Well done everybody connected to this fantastic renaissance…..I would however ask…does this particular aircraft now bring into being the words new build …rebuild…or even kit build… for all the recently dug ‘projects’ that are appearing at ever growing prices with or without original factory plates…or even newly manufactured plates.

Surely by now, we are all old enough to admit that 1 or 2% of original metal can no longer classify originality. Its laughable to tell people that here is a rebuillt Spitfire that flew in the B of B …Oh really !!!….then the long winded discussion of how much is original.

Lets buy a kit…build it, and paint it in our favorite pilots colours…didn’t a chap called Charles Church do just that….

Oh dear…a can…and worms are in the next sentence.

    Duck low…incoming!!!!!!!!!

Nice pictures – thankyou- brings back memories. I lived almost at the end of the runway at Christchurch where (and when )they were built.
    and one here…

Brilliant pics. and resume of the Gliding facilities at Christchurch….
I was there in 1958 on a CCF school gliding week. Squ.Leader Hayter was OC. and ran a very tight and disciplined course. We used to be hawsered up to circa 1000ft and then, at the sink rate of a brick, in a T21, be taught to circuit and land land without breaking anything.
Great fun, especially the first solo, downwind over Muddeford creek and hearing S/Ldr Hayter shouting instrucions with his tin mega phone from the ground.
Passed out in 5 days and received the coveted license from Lord Brabazon of Tara. (not in person mind you)
Anyone else remember being on one of the gliding courses ?

Can anyone tell me of any flying restoration project which has cost anywhere near the MILLIONS of pounds this one has so far, and the hundreds of thousands that will be needed to keep it flying in the future.

The incredulous costs involved far outweigh and imbalance any satisfaction that might be derived from seeing it in the air.

Average Joe public, with no knowlege of the costs involved, smile and say..’Its’ only an aeroplane’. When you tell them how much the total spend has been, the look on their faces is one of disbelief, nearly always followed by the words ‘you must be mad’.

If you don’t believe me…try asking a few…and tell them the truth!!

I’m sorry all you Vulcan fans, but I am old enough to have seen Vulcans fly at Farnborough + all the other gone but not forgotten, now extinct icons of the jet age. Some flew well and looked good…others flew like barn doors and looked like one….and yet we rant on about the Vulcan as if it out classed all the rest….It didn’t !! it just happened to be the last one available to fly in this day and age…….At what cost ???????…millions of pounds used up on one aeroplane…… for what and for who ????
Does anyone really think it represents good value for money…just to see it fly occasionally….surely not the millions it has cost…it is out of all proportion to keep asking more and more money to keep it flying…it’s a black hole with nothing at the bottom of it.

I have read all the armchair fo’rs and againsts…..the bucket brigade and the donation askers for your £1-10-100 or more if you have it. How much longer can you expect to realise the thousands nay hundreds of thousands of pounds required to feed this monster ??????

Cut your losses lads…take a reality check and stop kidding yourselves….all good things come to an end and you have given it a good try..

Let’s think how many wonderfull projects have suffered and been neglected in favour of this greedy monster.

I can think of one lying on the Goodwin sands which is worth, as the only one in the world, a lot more than another year, or less, of Vulcan flying.

Now I’m going to duck behind my pc monitor……………….
