Oh, we are going to make those concessions. We already have, minutely but saving thousands. Ours is a replica, and probably already not as accurate (off-the-shelf close-match extrusions) as this Spitfire’s fuselage. No criticism.

Yes there is little practical point maintaining accuracy in an area the public won’t see where it makes things difficult. Of course. But whatever the authenticity of what then apoears to the viewer, it is a r******.

I am clearly in a minority in looking at the airframe, seeing that it isn’t built like a Spitfire airframe, and thus calling it a replica. It’s a great object in itself, but it is a replica – if I took a metal frame of my own design and attached Ferrari panels and parts, would I have a Ferrari or a replica Ferrari? REGARDLESS of the quality of my work and the excellence of the object produced?

How is this a double standard?
