    Good job

I think the first naval prototype is proving its credentials already. Beefy landing gear for high sink rate, levcons, upgraded fbw. This is neat stuff.

I suppose NP-2 prototype with its 300-400kg lesser weight, nose droop and larger fuel tanks will be even better at carrier-based sorties.

I can see the LCA program maturing really fast. All credit to the entire manufacturing and design teams.

    Questions

    A few questions:
    – It’s difficult to make out “nose droop” feature from the above snapshots. Can anyone confirm?
    – Reduction in weight by 300-400 kgs is mentioned. Is this being done to NP-1 or did it refer to NP-2 ?
    – NP-1 has a larger newly designed internal fuel tank? or was that for NP-2 single seat variant?
    – Upgraded FBW can deploy levcon corrections throughout the flight envelope I suppose and not just for landings as mentioned in the press release?

Overall I think its a neat looking plane. Should be interesting as further details and side profile snapshots emerge.

    Indian Navy RFI

Gorshkov and IAC-1:The Indian Navy has Gorshkov and IAC-1 around the horizon. They already have 45 Mig29K’s on order. IN has initial commitment for 50 naval tejas fighters. That totals to 95.

IAC-2: It has been mentioned that IAC-2 will weigh 50000tons or more and will be CATOBAR-equipped. Indian Navy chief Nirmal Verma mentioned on Navy Day in Dec 2009 that the Indian Navy would prefer an EMALS system to the steam-launch system for IAC-2. Also IAC-2 will have fixed-wing carrier-borne AEW link.

It is quite clear that India is moving towards a CATOBAR equipped navy leaving only IAC1 and Gorshkov for STOBAR operations. The F35C seems better suited between the two.
