    Saudi Lightning Stencil Data

Sorry for digging this thread up, but did somebody say they had the stencil data for a Saudi Lightning. I’m after the same to finish the attached profile off (bits that have been done are based on the Lightning at Norwich). Any info would be gratefully received.

Not quite as good as the one HMS Ocean did, Rawhide with a Cargo strop in luit of a whip. However haven’t seen that one on Youtube yet.

Another factor that would mitigate against the use of Belgrano in and around the harbour is the same one that the Royal Navy were wary of – Exocet.

There were a lot of ships in the Task Force equipped with it, and a relatively static target could expect quite a bombardment.

And the attempts to put Martel on a Vulcan may have been rather more serious as well

AR Martel fit was trailed and worked on the Vulcan. I do believe that the big problem was that the missile only had a carriage live of about 25 hours before it had to be sent back to the Martel MSF at Marham for refurb. Hence the reason for the procurement of Shrikes, which didn’t suffer from the time on pylon limitation of the Martel. TV Martel with the data link pod should have been tried, as you could have done some real damage with it, however missions would have had to been flown in daylight.

An awful decision, based on Labour politics only. Cosford is one of the best places for training being right in the middle of the country and with good communication links north west east and south by both road and rail (a station in the middle of the camp) and one of the contractors is EDS, the idiots who have produced the most inefficient admin system the Armed forces have ever had (the number of RAF personnel who have had their pay c@cked up since the JPA system came on line is huge)

    Better bomb load as well.

almost 50 % better and the Victor was the only V-bomber to break Mach 1 (Mk1 over Radlett in 1958 (I think)).

But that’s not an integrated command structure with it’s own interceptors and SAMs, as NORAD and PVO (and Sweden’s STRIL) are/were. But you’re right, it definately is a multinational monitoring organisation. NATO’s NAEWF could possibly be included in the list as well.

NAEWF is a Control and Survillance asset, nothing more and nothing less.

UKASACS is a fully integrated Air Defence system, a Controller in the Main Control and Reporting Center can control an interceptor almost anywere in the UKADR using the picture from any of the system’s Ground based Radars and links to all of the system’s AGA Radios dotted around the UK, plus use the picutre from a number of other assets including NADGE and STRIDA Radars, plus data from AWACS and AD radar equipped ships. The old IUKADGE system that was phased out two years ago could also be linked to the computerised Bloodhound SAM command and Control system that came into service in 1987 (However Bloodhound was phased out before IUKADGE became finally operational, and no replacement SAM was procured).

Comparing JORN to NORAD is like comparing an apple to a grocery store. Jindalee is a single OTH-radar, NORAD is a multinational C4I system consisting of, amongst others, a number of OTH radars.

There is only one possible comparison to NORAD, and that one even comes short in some points until it was dissolved. That one was called PVO.

Ok, they didn’t have a BMEWS, But there is NADGE (may have another name now) in Europe and that had at least three national systems that can be tacked on like STRIDA (France), UKASACS (New name for UKADGE, UK) and even the Swiss had the capibility to feed their radar data into the system. Most definitly an international intergated Air defence system.

There was one for the old Amiga years ago. thought I’ve still got the code for a simple space shuttle sim I did for a ZX Spectrem 21 years ago, Nothing close to the above, though with only 48 k, thats not surprising.

It’s West Raynham – some serious thread creep going on here!

Don’t knock the guy, I’m interested in both as I lived at both WR 85-89 (my first section is in the aerial photo) and lived at Coltishall from 2001 to 2004 and will be there in 6 hours

The Hurricane is Peter Vacher’s. The weather is predicted to be fine, blue skies in Norfolk so my man there tells me. Lets hope that Coltishall gets a good send off, they predict 3000 people, must be far more than that number intending to be there?

Will there seriously be any other place to be tomorrow?????

    NO!!! see you there.

    2 F8 WH450

WH450 is a TT8 of Coltishall Station Flight, around 1960. Cheers for the posting the photo Glyn, as I’m doing a number of profiles of Coltishall aircraft and I wanted to do some of the station flight Meatboxes.

    Edit – WH450 in colour

    Aren’t you missing Thunderbirds?

No the The saudis had them for a while before they got HAWK!!!!

If the British don’t sell it to them, then it will be the French or the US or the Russians or China. Whats the differnce?, Its not the backhanders as everybody does it (Lockheed to the Germans in the late 1950s anybody???)

Hopefully should be a good day or morning really.

    Brian.

Sorry Brian, did not pick it up on the search I did before starting the thread. Hurricane is one of the civvy ones, which one it is going to be I have been told by Mick Jennings, but cannot remember off the top of my head. See you there.

    Regards

    Richie
