Look in the Military Forum, there is at least one photo of an Iraqi Hunter here
Love this one: “Aim toward the Enemy.”
– Instruction printed on US Rocket Launcher😀 😀 😀
Great find Andy
Its on the side of the M72 ’66mm’ LAW rocket launcher if memory serves 😉
Old, itty bitty, naval SAM. Sea Wolf replaced it as I recall. Whoops. Looks like it was a land version of the Seacat
Well, more of a Old, itty bitty Land based SAM, Replaced by Rapier in most of the countries that used it. The systm was a Land based version of Seacat with a three round launcher on a trailer. Most users had only the optical SACLOS system, However one user had an all weather radar SACLOS system tacked on. It was used with not much effect by the Argies in the Falklands war. Seacat was replaced by Seawolf on some Leander class frigates, while at least one of the Assault ships, Fearless had Phalanx fitted in its place. However most RN ships fitted with it were never updated and the weapon was phased out as the ships fitted with it were replaced with the Type 22’s and 23’s during the 1980’s.
And that’s why I asked about nationality, not place of birth. Like nationality of service it can be misleading. Like most whites of the Raj, Gibson would have had a British passport and nationality (I presume) and certainly would not have regarded himself as ‘Indian’.
James, I was only being technically correct in that statement, I would agree that Gibson would most certainly not have regarded himself as ‘Indian’. Maybe that why the Dog had the name that it had.
Dr.Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb.
Last line from Lt Zogg (B-52 Nav/Bomb) ‘What about Major Kong?’, of course Peter Sellers was also going to play Major Kong, until he fell off the H-bomb during filming and endded up in a wheelchair. Mien Fuhrer I can walk!!!! :diablo:
Death Race 2000? :diablo: :diablo:
Had a plane in it too, Rutan job if I remember with a self loading bomb rack (just like the self loading weapon’s pylon on Mavericks F-14 in Top Gun), plus Matilda the Hun and Herman the German in the Buzz Bomb Special. Loved it. 🙂

The Old Airfix page on Battle Picture Weekly had a RAF Concorde as a modification project in one of its issues.
Just got back home and to a PC with Broadband. Great Video of the F-22, the Flankers and Fulcrums are most definitely going to be toast.
Amazing….not only that but he was flying a Spitang!
which MUST have been on FIRE :diablo:

I was thinking the same James, but unfortunately I don’t have anything that lists the crewman’s nationalities by birth, only thier service. Someone’s already mention Dinghy Young being born in the States, and ofcourse one of those listed as RCAF is the American Joe McCarthy.
Edited to add that the Dambusters.org site appears to list places of birth where known ,so it might be possible to piece together the nationalities by birth if you have the time and inclination.
Yep, if you have the time. However you could add an Indian, as that’s were Gibson was born :diablo: . Also Martin is counted as RAF, but he was an Aussie 😀
Is the Typhoon ever going to “officially” show up at an airshow over here?
I have a feeling that the Europeans are going to get the best shows when the Typhoon and Raptor demos are done. 🙁
Most likely the RAF display pilot will make his way over to the US on one of the Flag exercises, so you will get to see the Typhoon sometime.
One thing I couldn’t find out (anyone?) inspired by the earlier mention of the Kiwi crew was the nationality ‘mix’. There were several Aussies on the raid, I know. Who else, and how many?
British
Canadian
Aussies
Kiwis
One 1/2 Yanks (Dingey Young was born in the US)
John Sweetman’s book has the breakdown of crews by nationality and numbers , however my copy is 80 miles away at the mintue. 😡
Code words:
From the MOD History website.
Some good links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Chastise#External_links

Had to do some research myself on the raid recently. Interesting what data’s out there.

PS. Ollie, sometimes it’s smarter just not to post or not say anything.
Theres also Goner, which was the Code for Weapon release, it was followed with a postfix of weapon detonation distance from the dam and the effect of the explosion.
All aircraft are to change to the normal Group operational frequency 3680 KCs as soon as the special weapon has been released and are to transmit the following code group and appropriate figure, or combination of figures, adding the letter of the Target Z, B, C, D or F after the figure or figures, e.g. GONER 78C :-
GONER 1 – Special weapon released. Failed to explode.
GONER 2 – Special weapon released. Overshot Dam.
GONER 3 – Special weapon released. Exploded more than 100 yards from Dam.
GONER 4 – Special weapon released. Exploded 100 yards from Dam.
GONER 5 – Special weapon released. Exploded 50 yards from Dam.
GONER 6 – Special weapon released. Exploded 5 yards from Dam.
GONER 7 – Special weapon released. Exploded in contact with Dam.
GONER 8 – No apparent breach.
GONER 9 – Small breach in Dam.
GONER 10 – Large breach in Dam.
I thought the word nigger just ment black.
