That seems pretty strange. India overhauls its Mirage 2000’s at Bangalore and services most of the eqpt w/in India itself. BDL is to undertake a life extension and upgrade of the Magic 2 missiles as well, in india itself.

So how is it that yer guys couldnt land such sweeteners?

Any news about the Bars 29?

Heres a thought- could the IAF/IN ultimately AESA’ise the radar? (with NIIP’s help)

That 90% figure seems to refer to a certain block of exercises. Probably BVR in counterair. Either that, or it refers to the performance of the Su30 alone vs the F15. Not the other a/c types.

    Superb work Paul .
How would you rate the Russian Thermals? The Nocturn appears 2nd gen to me, a pretty solid achievement .
Nice to know that they have made their own third gen II tubes .

Be careful, you’ve got several kinds of differents MMIC.
For example, Thales has an AESA ground radar for years but not for aircraft.
    Why ? I don’t know :d

Rajendra is a passive phased array. ARguably one of the most successful DRDO products. It has been accepted as a Weapons Locating Radar and as part of the Samyukta EW project by the Army. Even though, the system for which was originally developed- the Akash SAM, is yet to undergo user trials.

The DRDO active array is earmarked for two purposes:
    1. AEWACS drawing upon the experience gained by the earlier ASWACs program (which ended with the tragic crash of the fully kitted Avro)
    2. Long range surveillance radar for the Army.

See- you talk to some folks they will tell you- “o south indians and bengalis dont make good soldiers naa”. Well they might change their opinion when they’re on the receiving end of a bayonet charge by the above mentioned fellers……
Given enough time, money and motivation- any volunteer unit can be trained to top notch standards.

Exactly. The Martial race nonsense has been around for far too long. Having said that, several regions in India have a long affinity with the armed forces and hence have a disproportionately large number of their boys and gals in uniform….

Really? I thought the ones they made were pretty obscolescent Gen1 systems. Eg the Indians purchased French Thermals in lieu of the Agava for the T90S

Wonder why- because both the French and Israeli fellers are making Gen 3 devices.

Well you guys have to improve base security then. When the IAF faced the jehadi nutters from Pakistan they quickly raised the Garud commando force- among whose duties is air base protection. Does the SLAF have its own specialist unit now?
After that earlier incident- i am sure some decision would have come about…
