    I think it is highly realistic to expect that Russia invents PakFA and hands over the entire technology to India in the next 5 years. India contributes now only in financing a part. There is no industry capable to compete in this field in a normal way. I agree that it is bigger chance that USA gets a bigger deal to counter China.

    Nice pic! I like the dual more then the single. Would be nice to see with fueltanks and BVR. Anyone know what they did with fuel (making a dual requiers more space) quantity?

    Is there a ring missing between the engine and body?
    Did they change antenna’s? And is it smart to have the antenna on the belly where you can have a huge fueltank?

    Besides that… How many cheap rockets can be destroyed if system is saturated and how much will it cost?

    One facet of Red Flag that often gets lost is the logistics battle of keeping airframes in the air. DACT is important on the tactical level. Logistics is what wins the war. Luckily we’re past the days of WW1 and WW2 where you simply threw a bigger team at an opponent to win a tactical battle. To some extent this philosophy still holds true as we saw NATO do in the Balkans. But those little countries that end up being opportunities to police – meaning world opinion is against them – are becoming fewer and almost nonexistent. Eventually police actions will involve opponents of considerable size and wealth. With the economies of the aggressive internationalists producing fewer and fewer war machines each battle will become more important to the big picture. In this way DACT will prove to be worth every penny.

    Sure?! If you are part of the “coalition of the cheating, willing to dominate, intimidate and destroy” with overwhelming force after decades of boycot… And even then you need more then super airpower. Airsuperiority is nice but in real wars it is just getting more attention then it deserves. You might ask why ground troops in Irac needed years? Or let us talk about Afghanistan where the opponents have only AK47 and IED. You can have everything the US have and still not win the war. DACT is a nice way to play some games. To understand high tech equipment and use it in a more effective way. But that does not make it very important.

    Like we said. If you alter rules then suddenly Mig21 wins the battle against F22.

    The “fanboy” claim aside even serious military do behave in a similar way.
    Still “playing” around with “early MiGs” or to deal by that with “Third World Forces” in short. Something what led to the Cope India disaster, when the Indians did refuse to show that estimated “Third World behavior” or when the Israelis leaked some results. The Swedish and French pilots have no problems to engage the NATO trained crews in multi-national exercises. It does not matter really, because NATO forces have not to face challenging state of the art forces for some time to come. Hence the own staged “Red Forces” do pose the highest estimated threat in the present time. The gentleman agreement or the so called military secrets do even keep such exercise results from the public. Just some inhouse results like the scores in gunnery or bombing exercises were published sometimes.

    India is not better then USA. If you add the reasons why the US could not win then you might understand that your post is not to the point. If you restrict the F15 that much even the Gnat would have won the battle. It is like asking the F16 not to use AB, not use BVR or radar and fight against 1n v 4n or worser. Would you still say it is a fair fight which represents the reality? I think we overestimate the outcomes. We heard MKI was the best yet it was only used as bomber in Red Flag and even then without radar. There were many excuses why it shot many friendlies but we have to remember that a real combat is nothing compared with the real fight. Neither do I believe that Israeli pilots are super humans. It is like telling that the F16 is the best in the world, you will see lot of people take that as for real. 😉

    Planes often do look like the other. Otherwise no one is risking to buy them (YF22/YF23)

    some other examples.

    OLD PIC of first design. Heres newer design in production. OP compare pic with Mig 21 (birds eye view) and then get back to me.

    C’mon. It has wings, engine and cockpit. It is the same. 😉 We have these kind of below average discussions on J10 and FC1 numerous times and frankly the posters are the same. I think the F5 is the real dad. Certainly the Tigershark.

    It is pretty much comparable when it comes to sensors. More range but still both are having the same level of upgrade. You cannot put a bigger radar or more fuel into JF17. But they will use JF17 as inhouse workhorse and FC20 as a2a. Diversity. I do not think you can say that the JF17-FC20 is comparable with F16-F15 link. Pakistan is still looking for a high end as you can read in an a few years old interview of ex-ACM. Maybe they will upgrade it to high end but sofar it is something we have to see.

    no more LCA everywhere…J10 is just a newcomer of 3re gen fighters(first flight in 1998, get into service in 2003, and just 5 regiments were formed by now, 2 more ongoing, about 180 J10A in total ),nothing more, how could this paper plane compare to the superb LCA?(especially the legend–MK2 coming in 2012 )…

    let’s focus on the topic, but I have to say it’s none sense itself, maybe we should start this discussion when more details of J10B are revealed or the first contract is inked…J10 hasn’t proved itself in a combat or market.that’s why I call it a paper plane…J10A could barely compare to the early models of mature bird f16. and this new model B means chinese aviation industry is trying to improve it with new knowledge and technology absorbed recently…

    J10 has been(not “is likely to”) in mass production in china… the second J10 assemble line is working. the new pics taken near 132 factory at the end of 2009 show loads of new J10As in yellow skins are test flying. the 7th J10A regiment has got first 4 in mid Dec 2009 and I will be happy to prove it with reality(pics and news) not the vanity(such words as “will”,”project”,”plan” which we have heard too much from XXXXXX ). and since 2003,about 180 J10As have entered into service, about 30 jets/year . not too slow…Let’s wait to see the another ‘likely’ to happen. only time will tell.

    How onesided.

    I would not be suprised if one uses cruisemissiles to destroy airfields… Same effect as durandal but then with multiple attacks and mixed ammo. No risk of pilots.

    I would know how a missile can reach mach 6 flying low. What is low? The add looks more like commercial then something to be used to extract academic data from. I have to smile when reading that Pakistan does noit know its fate. Idnian journalism is one special case, isn’t it? 😉

    I think it is a significant step for a nation to achieve this. The comment of Zhi Feng that it is just noise is stupid. The entire economy of the US will be ruined if China wants to have the cash returned. China is not a military superpower (which is strange cause I think it is but not based on ruling others) but surely it is the fastest growing economy. One dimensional thinking is often lack of knowledge.

    It will not be as expensive as the mig29 (and derivatives) when talking about maintenance. You can see Malaysia reducing the numbers of mig2 and searching for alternatives. Whether it be a real option for nations that can hardly buy K8/J7? I don’t think so. But those that can pay (long term contracts or even commodities as exchange) can have a fighter (indeed we need to see exactly what it can do but it won’t be a huge suprise either) that has the potential. I think that Su27 as an alternative is unlogical. You go to a new size and I still have to laugh at certain nations ordering a few flankers. That cannot be a wise and efficient choice.

    If you ask me…

    No money -> K8/J7
    Mig29 -> JF17
    Flanker -> FC20

    why’re you bringing the LCA into this thread ? did he mention it ? you seem to make such inflammatory comments on the LCA all the time. Maybe your intention is nothing more than to spark a flame war ?:mad:

    My intention is not near anything you wrote. Maybe you should start reading how some wrote in this J10 topic. 😉
