Interesting picture, the upper engine with a 15 by it rather looks like a turboshaft whilst the lower engine with 13 by it looks like an analogue of the RD-93. Notice the nozzle section looks very similar to the one fitted to the RD-93, could this be the much talked about but rarely seen WS-13 for the JF-17?
I always had a question about the dropped nozzle of the RD33… Is it only because the engine is off and the hydraulics are not pushing it straight or does it stay this way even during AB and all MP regions?
>>>IAF aims for complete control of the skies.
At the moment that is something surely not achieved. And even it would then there is the MAD scenario which India never will stop. I think history showed that India could not win airsuperioruty in the past. PAF showed etremely good results againt an India with more quantity and quality. And I doubt that it will be worser for Pakistan with the improving power of China. There was a certain problem for PAF when USA dumped is (unreliable ally that needed only Pakistan to stop Russians in Afghanistan) and China could only deliver less quality planes. With de superiority China is gaining it will lift Pakistan and its industry. Something India can not achieve that fast. Sofar only the MKI is something new (but within years there are better alternatives for Pakistan like the FC20) and I doubt that it can do even something like the “punitive” actions or the large scale cold doctrine and taking China and Pakistan at the same tume. These are surely dreams.
Tango,
Yo are for me personal the most valuable member. By just checking your posts I am informed. Hope you continue and wish you a happy new year.
So in a year we can talk about the real world. Cool. Anyway, I am hoping that in the next airshow somewhere in the world (far from both nations) we can share and enjoy the planes on both sides. Just imagine both nations a few decades ago with mig21/mig19 as their major fighters. Now they have both developed industry and are going to be equip with very very lovely planes. I hope Alan travel will make a nice trip for us. 🙂
Without taking sides I can read that both nations have seen tremendous developments. Both have Refuelers, AWACS, 4th gen fighterjets, BVR, impressive missiles like Babur/Brahmos… Good.
By the time MRCA is in full numbers the PAF will have evolved over the entire area. Block52 is nice but not the high tech machine for PAF. FC20 is going to be better or there will be an alternative.
A…. The usual my d is bigger then yours. Guys let us return to the table in a normal way. None of you can predict the effect of weapons X against weapon Y. Would it happen, how fast will it be MAD or will a delta difference really make any impact?
If Indian AWACS is near then it surely will get attention of the HQ9 (long range anti radiation SAM). Same will probably happen with Erieye. So lot of effort will have to be taken to secure refuellers/AWACS and CAPs. It is not a fight of 10 against 1000. The numbers are big and there will be no easy path.
LCH first flight in a few weeks, says HAL Chairman
That is what he said ‘a few months ago’ as well! 😉

Isn’t it delayed for the Xth time? Well, the model looks surely nice.
DRFM will be needed if opponent have entirely new array of radars. I think that if PAF still not knows most of the data then they are probably will know if war starts. Elint is not only done by unupgraded or Block52 F16’s. There are more planed and I think the Saab2000 is suited to do the task. Besides that PAF does control PAC and they do manufacture fighterjets as the only airforce. If they produce radars, RWR etc what makes you think they do not posses the knowledge to use DRFM/Links in planes like JF17/FC20 or even the PG/upgraded mirages? I Think it is a bit shortsighted to think they are sitting to get destroyed in the first 48 hours… I have to smile that a high placed general of the huge Indian army sugests that India can fight China and Pakistan and win in the 48 hours (cold start). Never knew that a real general could say something like that. About DRFM. As said, well known fact and discussed to death thbat it is not delivered now but who knows what happens in the future. There are more deliveries from the USA to Pakistan we do not know. If they can deliver AMRAAM they can do more.
The conditions are probably to let the Indian lobby (which has objected through people like Gary Ackerman) sit quiet for some time. I do not think that in case of a need the PAF will start reading contracts. You use what you need, even nukes if they have to. That is what USA, China or Russia will do and they will not start reading UN chapters, will they?
Falco is just one of the UAV. There are indiginous programs that will be comparable with Predator. In contrary to some nations the secrecy around Pakistani projects is huge. Even if the projects are there long time we do not know what they are.
And idiots have been saying the same thing about every achievement China has made in modern history.
‘They can never do this, they can never do that.’ When China has achieved something declared ‘impossible’ by such prophets, they claim China stole the technology or move the goalpost.
Its pathetic, irrational (unless you think there is something inherently ‘inferior’ about the Chinese that means they can never do something better then the white man even with more resources and better technology), irrelevant and typical of the kind of commentary you make about China, and its frankly getting tiresome.
What did your post add to the discussion except for your own baseless, and I suspect racially motivated, trolling?
I think I have to agree with this 100%. It is kind of stamping the inferior title without knowing the facts. China was making copies of Mig17 and Mig19’s. Now it moved towards J10 (which some still like to mark as Lavi) and it will go faster and much further. At the same time if other nations get almost everything from outside are called achievers.
Why did PAF not send the older and more comparable F7p?
In the end Kaveri is Russian and French product. 🙂 No seriously, it would be great to see the engine make it to LCA or derivative. Having the technology to produce or better to design engines is THE factor that something can be done without foreign interference. India is spending great deal of money and getting this technology is the best step it can do. We have to wait for a year or so cause I am used to delays in every foreign program. I hope this time the Indians have not fallen into tricks of the contracts (paying extra afterwards) and we will see more of them. And then surely it would be great to see LCA shining in Le Bourget. It is time to show the rest of the world.
There is a reason that the boneyard is filled with these planes and the fact is that they are going to be testbugs for missile tests. Ain’t that nice? Surely block52 and upwards are hot if you cannot pay the latest generations. And looking at the orders they are needed plenty. And for the US it is nice to have people working on these planes cause there is not much else to do for them.
Findia or Frussia…
I would go for Mufassa. 🙂
Who will and can update them for the Iranians? I think it was indeed a test how optical it would be against UAE and F22. If you take that out then you can surely take out the ordinary F7. The Americans and UAE have trained against much better planes. I think it was just to look how they would do in WVR arena where the F7 (and surely the PG) is at its best. When you do that it is perfect to have the same plane rather then simulating one. For PAF is was nice to see how it does against much better and a lot more expensive planes.
