Kramer explanation on generations is load of personised opinion. Sorry I will not counter you because it would waste my time. Picking and choosing evidence to suit your view. Post me some credible sources to back up yout claim.
On your post directed at me.
Ok why would Indian army use both 125mm Smootbore guns and 120 Rifled guns for tank fleet, seems like need to satisfy domestic audience. Plus an expensive task. Same with airforce, have aircraft from various nations, plus from home, seems like India has not learned to simplify logistics.
I think that with the size that India has, the economical progress it can probably do that or it does not know the implications of the choice. Anyway, I would expect with the size of India it would not buy that much but move towards internal developments. I totally understand the LCH concept. Good. But I do not understand 250+ mki AND MRCA. India can develope more if it moves aay from being intrested in foreign products more then what they produce. An indigenous product would be better then an imported cause they will start developing more. But then again, since it is Pakistani topic. Which nation would jump in Erieye 2000, Il78, JF17, MLU, Block52, FC20 at the same time? I agree they had noting for three decades but it looks like a huge big bang. All good for us airplane lovers but huge change for maintenance, pilots etc.
The way you make it sound the logical thing next would be start importing from China as well..
India doesn’t import from countries so that they won’t sell to Pakistan. That is a type of conspiracy theory thinking that shows a lack of understanding of how much more complex it is to select the sources of any particular acquisition.
My Indian friend Kramer,
Even if the slightest move of Pakistan surfaces the Indian press, lobby and its government are shouting from the highest rooftops. We have seen several examples that suddenly India is intrested in the same product. Even if Pakistan maybe gets 14 f16’s it is your (the Indian) side that is printing stuff like maybe Pakistan could use it against India. Isn’t it a but unrealistic to write that it is conspiracy? I think you miss facts.
Every nation is open to lobbying….anyway I doubt India had anything to do with it when India could not even get the Russians to withhold the RD93. Pakistan can thank their Chinese friends propensity for coping anything and everything here.
It has more to do with the greed and incompetence of the French. They played everywhere the same by forcing the buyer to go for a bigger deal. Looking at the numbers Pakistan refused and left the table. Chinese do copy but if that would be the case then they would have not even started the negotiations and USA would not have US sold block52 or AMRAAM. Besides that, it is a blessing that the deal was dumped.

You know the language…
any links to show that ?

It took years for the Brits to get the Tornado radar installed… 😉 There are many other examples of updates during production. Nothing unusual.
It was a PG and a Mirage 5. I have seen the pics.
About JF17 and short runway. Just do a research. The landing is short. The turnaround time is superb. And it was all said by the current ACM. I hope he does know what he says, don’t you think?
The highway landings are a must for PAF just like the forward bases. If you do not have strategic depth then you cannot afford to have all your runways flattened in a few days. Neither can you wait to go to a base after being hit. The advantage is the past was that sometimed opponent pilots land on it and that is an easy bounty.
As far as I know F7, JF17 and FC20 had the short landing as a part of the design variables.
Repeating that sentence will not make it come true I am afriad.
I have posted the facts, sources and links for all to see and read.
I think you might be wrong on that. We have seen none armed and no pics of SD10 being delivered. And I have read a source that says exactly the same.
It is very difficult to figure out as why does Pakistan needs repeated Security Package when it can fulfill the same thing from its all weather ally China. It seems to me that Pakistan’s defence needs is so bigger that not even heavy duty Chinese defence industry can fulfill all those needs at a favourable credit.
I think that after 3 decades of flying second generation fighterjets and spare parts problems they want to shift a bit faster then we can imagine. It is surely related to India (as ACM/Kiyani) said but it is also nothing strange cause they missed atleast one generation.
Look, with Saab 2000 (4) you got a shift towards the top. It is not just a second hand air radar but one of the best. With IFR they want to move from nothing to 4 IL78. Not a small step either. Then you have the Block52 and the MLU almost at the same time. I think that cannot be seen as a simple upgrade but also a gigantic step for PAF. And you surely have to remind that they are producing JF17 (which costs time/cash/labour) and probably FC20 development. We make fun remarks about India jumping in a lot of developments but frankly they both are as crazy as possible. Lovely for us but still not comparable to many other nations (which are even richer or more developed.) I think we tend to forget to remember that.
Abot the new packages. Well, you must look at how US defeates Iraci and Afghanistani isurgents. The Pakistani can pump more military but one has to remember that it is a tough and long fight which is impossible without decent equipment. I still think taht they will get the sensors for UAV’s and probably parts that are dumped in Irac. I hope for them that they will get armed choppers cause with the numbers they have now (and the quality!) they can forget to win easily. I understand Indian concerns but they do have to rethink their opposition. Either get more people willing to move from Afghanistan to Kashmir or let USA provide decent weapons to stop them. With Pakistan armed with a lot more powerful weapons we can skip war between these two. A few more block52 will not make Pakistan win with hands down.
The Flanker looks great. Well, one needs tallent to make it look ugly 😉
I had my questions when I saw that 1 april joke about Rafale. If a nation cannot buy a few cheap Thunders then 36 Rafales would raise many questions. It is better to have a smile then start a fight!
In the past PAF had seriously disadvantage compared to IAF yet it did better then expected. With these changes it moves towards a better equipped airforce. It is not just one plane but a whole new airforce. Whether this or that is less that yours? I would not know. But we all can agree that moving form block15, J7, J6, Mirage 3/5 towards the improvements in 2010-11 you will have to redefine cold start.
Its the same as the new ALH Dhruv
Powerplant: 2× Shakti turboshafts, 900 kW (1,200 shp) is not bad. Its not a heavy attack helicopter of the Apache class.
How often do you need one? I think only in a full scale war and in the beginning you need to do that. In the average war you see them hitting soft targets like trucks or people doing something (IR monitor)… I think it is a good move.
Of course you will get sales revenue 😉 I am only saying that Pakistan did not develop anything they just paid for it. You do not necessarily get the IP for things you pay for, for example UAE Block 60s. But if China gives Pakistan good for them. 😉
You know the Chinese. If you join development (ACM said it often, it is written even in latest Alan Warnes book), you pay development costs, you get production share, you even get cash when you sell it. Then how much more do you need to say that probably they have IP? Somehow, you do not want to defame it, but on the other hand you need to see the actual contract. I find that a bit strange. Even about the IP, why would a nation give away gains if it is not contractually done? Cause they like them? Even the testing is partially done in Pakistan. That is the reason we missed 1-2 years of info about the development. And if integration of western parts (like IFR) is done in Pak, which nation producing theplane would allow that? 😉
