    Hi Highground,

No probs using it for that 🙂 I’ve seen your site before – very interesting and informative, thanks. I’ve visited the Mosquito and Catalina crash sites – some pics on my Flickr pages..

    Cheers

Work today has been like being paid to go to an airshow:) Two Tornado passes in the morning, then a superb departure by the P38. Oh what a sound!

For otters, you could try the little bay called Boddam, in the south mainland, to the east of Mainlands shop. Been there last 4 mornings from 8ish til lunchtime. Should see them fishing below the old house close to shore.

Or, Toft ferry terminal is also good. 2-3 hours before high tide is normally best.
    🙂

Cheers, I’ll try and get a few shots when she departs:) First P38 I’ve seen – quite a bit bigger than I imagined.

crieffy, great pics. Do you remember Air Ecosse?

I think they’d gone out out of business before I started at Sumburgh (1990) but I remember the name from when my dad worked as a refueller and I would come along in the bowser during the school holidays – back in the good old non-over-the-top-security days:rolleyes::(

Oh to hear a Viscount or 748 again:)

    crieffy,
When was the pic of the S61 taken? I’ll ask my friend and see if he was up there.

That shot was April 2008, but they were also here in the summer of 2009 for 3 or 4 months.

    Thanks:)

    Nice stuff.
I like the British International one. My friend flies for them.

I do miss seeing the 61s – this was the last one to be based here, for the NWH platform dismantling project. It’s possible your friend was one of the crew? They were Penzance based guys.

Great pictures. Spent 18 real happy months in the islands in the early 90s. When did they choppers come back from Scatsa?

    Steve

    Hi,
They’re still in Scatsta – we only get them as weather diversions. Makes it a bit interesting when 6 S92s and 3 or 4 Saab 2000s appear, as we only have 6 staff to deal with it, lol. All we have based at Sumburgh now is the Bond and CHC SAR units and a CHC Puma for a daily rig crew change.

    Cheers,
    John

Thanks guys:) Looks like we’re definitely heading back next year – hope the Vulcan will be too. Might try the ‘Enthusiast Package’ and see what’s on offer with that…

If that’s your first I for one will be looking forward to some from you next season!!

I see you reside in one of my favourite parts of the world…………….:D

It’s not toooo bad here, most of the time. Bit of a ****** for visiting airshows and a bit lacking in low-fly action:o

    Cheers,
    John
