    Hello Paul,

Many thanks for your message. I know Reelstreets and was aware of their posting concerning this film. However I’ve seen more than one image, I mean pre-1957, presented as to being the control tower at Heathrow but they apprear to show different buildings. Perhaps there were different towers pre-1957 but I’m still uncertain if the shots show Heathrow.

Many thanks for that but when I copied and pasted that into Google it did not work.

Many thanks for the imput. I have just read, Weekly Dispatch (London), Sunday, 9 February 1919, that the scenes featuring ‘the Handley-Page machines’ were filmed ‘at the Kenley aerodrome’. Perhaps the photos I sent in were also filmed at Kenley.  I note that D 656 is visible in one of my shots. Any reason to associate this plane with Kenley in February 1919?

Many thanks for the identification. Later in the film there are scenes at an airport in Romania but I’m certain the filmmakers filmed those scenes at Heathrow. Not much to go on here but is this Heathrow?

Many thanks for the two messages. Another scene shows a building interior, it looks and sounds like a real building, with an Eagle Airways poster and I believe that they were based at Blackbushe too, so everything seems to point Blackbushe as the location.

Many thanks for your suggestions and R6915 you are quite correct in spotting Paul Carpenter.

Once again many thanks to all involved. Sorry, but I don’t have any other mysteries at the moment but I certainly know where to post them when the next one crops up.

Thanks to everyone. avion ancien your suggestion of the London Air Park sent me online where I found this photograph:-

The writing on the hunger reminded me of something else which was in the film:-

When I watched the film I was certain that the top word was ‘Aircraft’ but I couldn’t make the rest out. However I’m now pretty certain that the end on the lower line must read ‘Mart Ltd’. Unfortunately the outbuildings are not in that photograph and they don’t appear to exist in present-day views of Hanworth Park. With all that said I think it must be London Air Park in the film.

Very many thanks, so it’s (from the top) Heathrow, Heathrow, Blackbushe and Blackbushe. Thanks again.

Many thanks. I don’t know much about planes but I presume the Viking is the plane viewed through the waiting room windows?
