Although I’m delighted that Black Mike has been rescued, I hope everyone will spare a thought for XT597. Black Mike is essentially a standard RAF Phantom (painted black). XT597 is a far more unusual aircraft (and arguably more significant). Tragically, it awaits a buyer, slowly rusting away. It’s a depressing prospect 🙁
Notwithstanding the debate and comment here, it is absolutely the intention of Key Publishing to grow and develop the magazine, side-by-side with FlyPast, and to restore it to its former glories.
The popular Aeroplane Icons series is also forging ahead 🙂

Looking forward to seeing the Dominie fully assembled!
Re- the Gannet, did anything ever happen with the plan to build another hangar? I seem to recall NAM were going to start a fund raising campaign some years back, but it all went quiet?
Great photos!
I do hope she finds her way back to Britain one day, even if it seems unlikely. Nice though it is to have a Belfast under cover at Cosford, it would be good to have another one to admire. If only some enterprising cargo company in the UK would take her on 🙂
Much as I support any efforts to keep XH558 flying, I suspect that when the inevitable happens and the Vulcan stops flying, there will be plenty of enthusiasm for supporting another great Avro project. I’m sure the Shack’s time will come 🙂
Encouraging stuff. The Shackleton project is such a joy – it will compensate for the loss of XH558 next year (or thereabouts)! I imagine there must be lots of people who dream about the sight and sound of a Shackleton growling over St.Mawgan again one day 🙂 let’s hope it happens.
Don’t forget our Aeroplane Icons special on TSR2 – a concise and informative account of the TSR2 story with lots of photographs and accurate scale drawings. Available by mail order, through Pocketmags too, and in some newsagents 🙂
Thanks for the leads chaps. I’m still looking around for interesting photos. It’s surprising how the Jaguar’s latter years are well photographed but go back a few more years and…
Brilliant – I suppose it is technically correct though? 🙂
You’d be amazed how many times text is read and re-read… and yet…
Maybe they need to re-equip with the Gnat – they seem to be healthy all these years after retirement!
That sounds like a good idea to me 🙂
We’ve added a few TSR2 photos to the Aeroplane Icons Twitter and Facebook page 🙂
WH904 any spoiler as to what it is and likely publication date?
Not sure whether I’m permitted to say just yet, suffice to say that it’s a jet 🙂 Should be on sale early November.
The Hawk T.1 OSD isn’t 2018-it has a few more years than that
Might be wrong, but I’ve been hearing for a long time that 2018 would be an optimistic date rather than a pessimistic one.
The low, fast and loud return to Finningley was magnificent!
