Glad you like it:) The Canberra edition is the last one produced by Kelsey. The next one is already in production… if I get off this forum and go back to it 🙂

The only sad aspect of all this is the poor ol’ Gannet going outside 🙁

This is a story that has been raised many, many times. Given that the Red Arrows Hawks will run out of hours in a few years from now, it seems likely that the subject will simply be avoided by politicians. Nobody wants to be “the person who dumped the Reds” so it is easier to simply leave the team alone until the Hawks are retired. When the Hawks are gone, there is a golden opportunity for our politicians to claim that they would love to keep the team going, but without any aircraft they can’t. I doubt that any politician would be so stupid as to dump the team, when the team will be without any aeroplanes pretty soon. I guess it’s always possible that there might be some attempt to re-equip the Red Arrows with new Hawks, perhaps through some sort of commercial partnership with BAE Systems and other parties, but it would be a pretty ambitious idea. Nothing’s impossible though, but it seems more likely that the Reds will eventually become just another victim of cost saving.

Not sure whether the sliver/orange paint scheme would be applicable in any case. It seems to have only been applied to the first few aircraft to enter service, so it might well have been delivered in red/white/grey colours. As long as it isn’t black I think everyone is happy! 🙂

Really? That’s great! It also means that it doesn’t duplicate the aircraft that is now at Cosford. Very good news indeed 🙂

Might we suggest acquiring some copies of (Key Publishing’s) Aeroplane Icons TSR2 special

I suppose it’s a long shot, but wouldn’t it be great if the Dominie could be re-engineered back to original standard – then you could slap CAW markings on it – ahh, Manby… ahh, Strubby… 🙂

Presumably it fails to answer some other questions… 😉

I fully accept that there are always errors in most magazines and I’m sure the Icons series is no different. I can’t comment on the Vampire issue as I didn’t deal with it, but I hope any potential readers will rest assured that they are not thrown together over a weekend. I think most people would be surprised to see how much effort is involved in creating something that looks deceptively simple. As for Aeroplane Monthly, I fully understand the worry that Key might take the magazine and just dump it after a few months. Rest assured I’ve made this point myself. All I can say is that Key Publishing tell me that they have no plans to abandon the magazine, and actually propose to improve it. Likewise, they say the same about the Icons series. Obviously, I don’t know if the situation will change in time, but then the same concern would apply no matter what publisher owned the magazines. There are never any guarantees with any business. Ultimately, I think we all hope that all the magazines will survive and prosper.

Hope you’ll have the Aeroplane Monthly Icons special on the TSR2 in stock for the event? Part of Key Publishing’s empire now 🙂

Sorry to hear that there are some “gross errors” in some of the Icons publications. I can’t claim responsibility for them all but I can assure you that the ones that I’ve produced have had an awful lot of time and care lavished on them. I’m sure there are mistakes – nothing is ever perfect, but I certainly do my best to avoid them. Like everyone else here I’m an enthusiast, and I try to produce something that I think readers would like to buy, not just some throw-away commercial rag. But of course it is very difficult to make judgements as to what readers want. One person likes one thing and another person likes something completely different. Ultimately, you have to make an educated guess as to what subjects, content and style will please the most people. But please don’t imagine that the Icons publications are just some cynical commercial enterprise – I assure you that they are not! 🙂

…so we’re taking steps to get it that bit closer.

Might have already been mentioned, but the fuselage roundel proportions are inaccurate (particularly the red). A minor point though – she looks lovely 🙂
