Athletics, to me it epitomises the Olympics,
The ancient Greeks didnt ride bikes, play tennis,
fire guns, play volley ball, football, basketball,
hockey or beach volley ball. They didnt have
global TV coverage, and drug tests, they didnt
have to fight with gloves on and they probably
    didnt do syncronised swimming.

Throwing, running and jumping, wrestling and feeding
non Greeks to the lions were the order of the day.

I personally think the whole event is too big but that
hasnt stopped me indulging in a feast of sport.

    Long may they go on!!!

Some spotting can be done from Langley Green Road which runs between Charlwood and Crawley but only good if landings are on 8. There are some laybys along this road but if it gets too congested , and it can at weekends, the police might move you on but its rare.

For a/c landing on 26,theres a small field just outside Horley where you can park up, its the entrance to a grasstrack racing track so if theres a meet on you might not get in there.

Here’s a couple of pics taken at LGW last week.

This is about the best spot there is right now, these pics were taken with full 210mm zoom so that tells you just how hard it is to get any decent pics there.

Dont entirely agree about LHR being no good for spotting and photos, there’s quitte a few vantage points around the airport besides the Visitors Centre.

Lutons only good for static a/c or if their taxiing to and from runway.

Havent been to STN for some time so cant comment.

BHX is ok just so long as you can get outside and above the perimeter fence.

MAN has got to be tops for spotting, photos and facilities.

I think the only way to get to BHX from down here is by train (eurgh..). I don’t think anyone flies up there do they? It’s only 100-and-a-bit miles.

…if you got a car. 2 hours drive up the M40/42
