    RE: Cities pics

    Agreed Saab,

It’s an extraordinary view, together with the Eiffel Tower, which itself is an awesome sight, and dont forget Notre Dame, it’s what Paris is about, the amazing architecture, the pavement cafes, a boat trip along the Seine is a must.

But why dont I like Paris?

    Am i missing something?

RE: What music craze did you follow as a youngster ?

During the 60s it was difficult not to take some kind of interest in the Beatles, the ‘Stones, the Who,and flower power stuff, which was good; but at the time I was mostly interested in the likes of Otis Redding, Sam and Dave and any other Stax artiste.

On the other side of the coin , I liked Hendrix and Clapton and anything to do with blues, early Led Zep and Deep purple.

i also liked early reggae stuff.

In 1976ish I first heard punk, man! if popular music needed an enema this was it, I was hooked, I love anything that evolved from it

    Dave 🙂

    RE: Some thoughts

Yeah I know my friend , but sometimes a little bit of national pride seems to creep in unexpectedly, and what started as a discussion ends up a heated row.

The best thing to then do is agree to disagree.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-11-02 AT 12:33 PM (GMT)]Mmmm, very well educated but very sensitive.

Keltic , I for one was not trying to be rude or offensive, but facts are facts.

But I do see your point about colonisation and invasions shaping future cultures, after all, if the Moors hadn’t invaded Spain there wouldn’t be that incredible architecture to wonder over.

Britain has had the Normans, the Vikings, the Danes , the Angles and Saxons, and the Romans invade our shores, and now we have West Indians, Asians , Africans , and Eastern Europeans bringing their cultures here(not to everybodies liking), you could say it was a peaceful invasion thats now referred to as immigration

In years to come, no doubt, us Brits will incorporate some of these cultures into our own, in fact we probably already are.

Things such as opression and genocide should be accounted for though, they must be the ultimate crimes, all Colonialists are guilty of one or the other or both.

Very eloquently put, I wont say anything to spoil it……yet!

    Sam

I’m sorry if I misconstrued what you were saying, but thats how it came across to me.

But you’re right, every one of us, from individuals to governments, should be accountable for our actions, past and present.

Whether it be the sword or diseases, the fact remains that the Conquistadors bought about the end of a great civilisation, to some an ideal civilisation.
