RE: Monoply in Engines
BA used GE engines for their first 777`s because GE were desparate to get a major airline as both AA and DL chose RR and UA chose P&W which left GE with just Continental in the US so they made BA a deal the maintain all BA`s engines for a set period of time at a knock down price as an insentive. Unfortunately the GE engines suffered early teething problems which delayed BA`s launch. I dont think many customers have chosen GE to power their 777`s most have chosen P&W or RR
RE: Monoply in Engines
If RR are so behind in engine technology why do both American engine companies use RR developed single crystal technology for turbine blades and still use twin axle engines not triple as RR. Could this be another knock a top UK success by the press
RE: Boeing safety bias
LAST EDITED ON 15-05-01 AT 09:17 PM (GMT)[p]Re GE engines I may be wrong but I seam to remember Lufthansa grounding Some GE engined 747`s a few years ago due to an engine or engine pylon problem can any body confirm this. Also the FAA in America are going to use ex UA 747SP N147UA in ground and aircraft based fuel tank inerting tests which is only just short of 5 years since the TWA crash put down to this very problem
RE: Concorde
Michelin have made a new tyre for the French aircraft which hopefully will be stronger than the old design
RE: A380
For jet wash read disturbed air left behind all aircraft as they fly. Wake vortex is the posh name
As for the name what are all you surgestions out there. To carry on the Beluga`s whale theme how about HUMPBACK
RE: PIA FLEET RENEWAL
PIA operate B747`s daily through Manchester to and from the USA and Canada
RE: heathrow terminal 5
Heathrow does need T5 but the big issue up in the forgotten lands of South Yorkshire is WHAT ABOUT FINNINGLEY. Now the labour big wigs are playing it safe at election time and having a public enquiry about turning the ex RAF base into a internatoional airport how many years are we going to have to wait.
RE: Doing a dissapearing act?
As printed in this months AIRLINER WORLD Airbus are to build a dedicated A330 freighter witch will more than likely take over for the A300 as the smaller option to the A380 freighter. As a side line if the A380 carries cargo on two decks it will take an interesting piece of equipment to load and unload to top deck.
RE: Foot and mouth
If the stories are true then both mad cow and foot and mouth started with infected meat products been fed to animals, animals that when I was at school many many years ago we were told eat grass. May be there is a clue their to the farmers. THESE ANIMALS ARE VEGITARIANS NOT MEAT EATERS.
I think we should name this country “#” THE COUNTRY FORMALLY KNOWN AS GREAT BRITAIN
RE: Deep Vein Thrombosis
Is it me or has the press gone quiet about DVT now that they have foot and mouth to write about.
RE: VC10. (newspaper article in the UK this week)
I do not know about the nav aids been incompatable. But if the RAF transports still fly goverment people round the world do they now have to travel to and from Brize Norton and can they only land at certain airports around the world which use older landing systems. I once saw two in one day at Manchester on troop movements two or three years ago.
RE: Doing a dissapearing act?
UPS has ordered 60 A300F4-622R freighters to be delivered between 2003 and 2009. Thy are still taking delivery of A300 ordered in 1998 so they will be still around for many years yet.
RE: Boeing shelves Super Jumbo 747X
This is good news for Airbus. But it looks like the proposed new aircraft with its new high speeds and shorter journey time are only going to be offered to people willing to pay a premium for either first or buisiness class. The rest of us in the cheap seats will still be crammed on to the current aircraft which by the time of the predicted launch will be getting rather old.
