Thanks for the replies!
JDK – I like the idea of getting a taxi from the train station better than the bus. In Barcelona a few years ago I tried to get to Nou Camp stadium by bus and ended up miles away! 😮
Are there taxis at the train station, or did you have to order one by phone? How do I find out the phone number of a suitable taxi service?
Anytime I would travel to Duxford from London, I always got a train to Cambridge from Kings Cross, then used the Courtesy Bus that leaves from Cambridge train station. These days I normally just stay in a hotel in Cambridge to save myself the bother.
As suggested!
I’ve charged and discharged the battery about 4 times now, but I’ll continue to try it out. I should probably get another battery to be on the safe side though.
I slightly cropped my pictures to try and make Sally B bigger in the frame. She was flying quite high and went directly over my head on each flypast!
She’s just been over here in Northern Ireland, performing a flypast at a memorial service at Belfast Zoo to a B-17 crew who were killed when their plane crashed into the Cavehill in poor weather, 62 years ago today. Will post pics soon.
I’ll definitely have to get there then, as the Zoo is only about 2 miles from me! Just wish someone could confirm when and where she will appear for certain.
Thanks. Does that mean she’ll be performing two flypasts? One at Belfast Zoo and one at Aldergrove? I’ll have to keep a close eye on the news!
I emailed B17 Preservation but haven’t received a reply yet. I’m wondering if Sally B’s visit to Northern Ireland is connected to a film being made by Richard Attenborough called Closing the Ring.
SYNOPSIS:
When a U.S. B-17 crashes near Belfast, a dying gunner asks a local to return his ring to his girlfriend in America.
Half a century later, a man finds the ring, learns its history and tracks down the girlfriend. MacLaine and Barton play the woman in 1993 and 1943, respectively.
He was in Belfast a few weeks ago shooting scenes, so possibly Sally B is coming over to do the aerial work around the real location?
Thanks Ashley.
Thanks for that Circus 6.
Hypothetically, if one of these aircraft ever needed to be repainted, how difficult would it be to move it out of the building and into the paintshop?
Here’s one of those Hastings wings!
[QUOTE=DazDaMan]That TFC’s MkXVIII in the second pic in the first batch? [QUOTE]
That’s right Daz. There were a couple of guys working on her while I was there.
Yes, it was the JU52. Couldn’t get any pics of it because the doors were only open a bit.
few more…
