I’ll jump in with a wild guess. If the RAF was anything like the USAAF, then an op would get officially counted if the bomber entered enemy airspace, dropped bombs on the target, or if contact was made with the enemy, either fighters or flak. If a bomber aborted due to enemy damage that would count as an op. Of course the RAF may have had a different method.
A few from me.
Ah. I looked through the pictures I took before and it is there! I don’t know how I didn’t notice it before. I’ve seen her about 6 or 7 times now. For some reason it jumped out at me when I saw her on Saturday. Thanks for the info.
When was the swap done? The nose on Mary Alice wasn’t cracked at the end of February. I hope they get a replacement because Mary Alice is an excellent restoration but the damaged nose detracts from its appearance slightly.
I’ve just got in from work and found this post. It would be an absolute disgrace if Sally B was forced to stop flying because of red tape. If this does happen, what will be her future? Would any other UK group be able to operate her, or would she eventually go back to the US?
Ross,
I’m sure there will be a few of us who can give you a lift to the show, if you decide to come over 😀
RER
Thanks for the offer. I’ll see what happens.
Is there any public transport to this event? I’ll be off work for summer in August and am very tempted to go. Being a non driver might make it a bit awkward though.
Thanks Mike J.
Thanks for that B-17Man. I look forward to seeing the ball turret on display.
Check this German site. It’s second in the list.

It’s correct name was ‘The Shiftless Skonk’ and was a B-17F.
Here’s two pics I took in 1997. I quite like the new colour scheme and hope to see it in the flesh soon. The last pic is of the last time I saw her in October.
A few from Duxford last year.
Looks like Pink Lady to me, judging by the d/f loop on the top of the fuselage.
Are formations like this not allowed any more? I was disappointed at legends that the 2 B17s didnt fly in formation.
I know absolutely nothing about painting aircraft, but would it be possible to paint Sally B silver, therefore having a bare metal appearance and giving protection to the aircraft skin? Or in the mean time could just the current code letters and serial be painted over with Olive Drab, and have some new codes applied?
