I’d say Sally B has kept her Memphis Belle markings to maintain her association with the film and help raise funds. I find it a bit redundant though because all the merchandise is marked Sally B and everyone refers to her as such. If she was to be repainted in the future I would prefer her to have her own unique scheme, and get rid of the Belle markings; like her scheme before the Memphis Belle film. Just my two cents!
If Cameron could get his weaponry so right for Saving Private Ryan, it is disappointing to think that his doco on the Bismark was so poor.
Steven Spielberg made Saving Private Ryan.
One thing that bothers me is that nearly every documentary about daylight bombing during WW2 uses the colour footage from the original Memphis Belle documentary. On ITV years ago there was a 50 minute program about bombers and nearly 15 minutes of it was just the Memphis Belle footage with a different voice over! There must be hundreds of hours of footage taken by the USAAF, but TV companies seem content with reusing the same footage time and again.
Hi all.
I have been using Jessops in Belfast to develop my pics because their machine displays the file name of the pics and it is easy to keep track of what has and hasn’t been developed. However recently their standards have left something to to be desired. On one occasion the digital booth was completely broke, other times the one hour service took 2 hours, and the last time I was in I left 1 hundred pictures to be developed only to find when I got home it hadn’t printed between 30 – 40 of the pictures. That’s not to mention the queues because there is only one machine.
Are there any other high street alternatives? I was wondering if anyone knew if the self service digital booths in Boots can read rewritable cds? Maybe I can develop 40 at a time.
I transfer all my pics from my camera to disc so there are between 300 – 400 pics on each disc. That was the advantage of Jessops because you could pick which pictures to develop from the disc, but do Boots require you to only have the pictures you want developed on disc?
Thanks in advance!
Crashed B17 mock up
Was a real B17 tail section used for the crash mock up? It looks very convincing, especially when compared to the pictures of the wreckage of F-BEEA.
Here’s a few of my statics from the Duxford Autumn Airshow.
For what it’s worth, here’s some of the only airshow I’ve used my S5000 at – Duxford Autumn Airshow.
Thanks for that RobAnt. 🙂
RobAnt – do you use a telephoto lens for your photos? I recently got the Fuji x1.5 lens for my S5000 but don’t think it would get as close as your photos. Also do you have any hints and tips for a beginner to the S5000? Thanks.
This photo was taken with the built in zoom.
I guess it’s meant to be a model of this submarine from a Tintin comic. Looks good!
Nice pics Ross, I have the same problem with keeping a moving plane in the middle of the picture.
At least there’s plenty of time to practice before next years season starts. One problem I had with my fuji s5000 was that when I took a picture, the camera would freeze the image in the view finder and I couldn’t follow the plane anymore.
Three from me taken last week.
Not the YB-17.
Hmm. The Model 299?
1. What was the first American plane to fly over Tokyo after the Doolittle raids, and when did it fly its mission?
Was it a B-29 on 10th November 1944. Robert Morgans memoirs show he flew a recconniassance mission to Tokyo on this date.
3. What was the first production Flying Fortress, and how many were built?
Was it the Y1B-17? There were 13 of this model built, and a total of 12,731 B-17’s built in total.
They have a ball turret in store, and might have more has well.
Laurent
I believe this is the turret, on loan to the Army Museum in Paris. My French isn’t great but that is what I guessed from the display.
