Great news.
As much as I would love to see a Phantom airworthy in the UK, I don’t think it will happen for the reasons of cost and time. Perhaps the compromise of a fast taxi capable machine could be reached?
Either way, the existing static aircraft really need to be looked after since it is a rare breed. On my last visit to Duxford, I was shocked by the condition of some of exhibits.
Well I for one am not looking forward to it. I read somewhere that they were planning to change the name of Gibson’s dog, ‘Nigger’, or omitting it entirely to avoid offending modern sensibilities.
If they change details like that, no matter how small, it’s no longer history. If you’re simply going for ratings, why not swap the Lancs for Eurofighters?
Do it right or don’t do it at all, that’s my view. Anything less would be a disservice not only to 617 Squadron but Bomber Command as a whole.
Apologies for the rant, but I’m touchy about things like this.

Lovely video.
Phantom’s Phorever!
Greetings,
As an avid PC pilot, I couldn’t help but post my own screenshot. I’m poor so I use FS ’02. Donations accepted. 😉

An F106 of 5FIS comes in hot. She’s certainly faster than my usual bird, an F-27 friendship, but then its not everyday you get your hands on a classic…

6 million? Money well spent if you ask me. Beautiful photos.
Nice find. Good luck with the rebuild.
483 right. Misread the faded paint.
Thanks for the help
It’s good to see rare types like the Scimitar and Whirlwind preserved. While I echo the sentiments of others and say that the museum should remain focused and take baby steps, I wish all parties involved the best of luck in this most worthy endeavour.
Absolutely correct….
As a native speaker, the translation is just:
“The enemy sees your lights. Darken/Dim!”The skeleton is a symbol for what could happen if you don`t… not for the Allies. People were not that stupid, even during WW2.
I did a history paper on this very poster when I was younger. Both sides produced some inspiring works to transmit public messages, boost morale, and motivate.
Peter, those slides were taken 30 years ago:) Here’s another slide I’ve scanned: XH483 Vulcan B.1A at the Manston Fire School in 1975
Sad to see them like that. I can deal with with scrap cars and landfills but shots like that tear the heart. The care that went into these machines; they weren’t for mass consumption. Lady’s like 463 et al deserved a better end…
🙁
