A fuel depot, that would probably be more “easier”, (I say easier) to pull off than a flying carrier, again, not really thinking in depth about it, but it seems like a pretty good idea.
You’ve been watching Stealth! 🙂
Wasn’t there a US program to develop a vary large transport based on an airship?
The only viable platform I could imagine is a very high altitude long endurance reconnaissance platform, perhaps as an alternative to satellite recon.
If the Akash was that much more advanced than the SA-6, why has it failed to be deployed in significant numbers after almost 20 years of development? Why purchase the Barak indstead? More corruption in the indian armed forces again favouring foreign imports?
Which part of SA-6 gainful was modified?
externally they are identical, the internals have simply had a fresh makeover; guidance system and other electronics
Viktor Belenko was the pilot. According to Wikipedia he is an Aerospace Engineer/consultant living in the USA. Former US President Ford granted him asuylum and he was looked after financially by a trust fund set up by the US government.
The MiG was returned in 30 boxes to the Soviet authorities
Thats quite surprising, I thought the US would have kept the aircraft flying for DACT purposes at least, stuck it in a museum somewhere or still kept it in one capacity or another.
The current Vayu issue states :
Topic : “Everything you wanted to know, but .. The LR-SAM and MR-SAM programmes”
“DRDO also conceded that the Akash indigenous missile system, in development since 1984, had been a sub-optimal performer, following which it was decided that IAF would purchase only two squadrons, to be deployed in less-than-strategic airfields”
Does anybody know where this is coming from??
Regards,
Ashish
That doesn’t really surprise me as the Akash is nothing more than a modified SA-6 Gainful.
This site gives a list of defectors w/aircraft , mostly during the cold war era.

Another page on the same site gives a list of aircraft shot down, against mostly during the cold war.

Any comments as to the accuracy of the info?
Any interesting stories/anecdotes about the incidents, from the gurus here?
Links don’t seem to be working anymore.
What ever happened to the aircraft and the pilot of the MiG-25 defection to Japan? Is there any reliable source to account for what happened afterwards?
Excellent — not even three pages yet and all ready to be locked up!
Congrats guys.
Fully agree, its like the old saying with everything India versus Pakistan; “They treat war like cricket and cricket like war” 😀
I am surprised you were not called a troll or suspected pakistani!!! Coz only these two questions:rolleyes:
It was only a matter of time before the accusations started to fly:
I hear the PAF is very active these days bombing villages frequented by the Taliban. Could it be one of them?
PS:
And “Flying_Monkey” is, as his name suggests, a monkey. He can’t help it. He proved it in the last IAF thread too.
Question is, can you do better??
Yes I am a flying monkey and proud of that fact :dev2: and like ive said before, we are all descended from monkeys, especially you. But if you claim otherwise, I would love to know your evolutionary lineage, is it rat, cow, elephant, snake or all of the above?
One thing you guys serioulsy lack is any sense of humour :p

why are you simply lashing out at the PAF on every comment which causes you distress? I made no reference to the PAF but asked a genuine question, if it wasn’t the LCA which bombed the village, then who or what did?
This was in Jaisalmer. If you care to read the article provided, the LCA weapons test was done in Sarmat range.
Sarmat Range is in Gujurat.
Still doesn’t explain who or what bombed the village. If it wasn’t the LCA, then what else could it be?
The problem sir is that if you go to Iran, or Saudi Arabia or Oman, you are required to observe their rules, customs and laws. If they come to our country why shouldn’t they be required to do the same?
Gary
so what do muslims do which is contrary or against the law of western nations? when people from the west visit any of the countries you mentioned, they behave pretty much as they do in the west, at least from what I’ve seen

Straw man!
I did not ask you about the iniquities of powers Occidental or Oriental.
I did, however, ask you to tell us what it is that leads you to believe that the stereotypes that you are peddling are less invalid than those held up by others.
Did you not understand the question, or can you simply not answer it?
I’ll make it perfectly clear, I’m not peddling any steroetypes, simply stating observations based on the foreign policies of major western powers in their dealings with the muslim, and perhaps, larger world. If you can clearly demonstrate the contrary, I’ll accept my views are sterotypes of the entire western world.

Well I won’t argue with you there…
…but I wonder if, say Iran, had the economic power, technical expertise and military might of the USA, whether the Iranian leadership would be tempted to dictate more on their interpretation of ‘moral high ground’?
I shudder to think what would happen if Iran was in the same league as the US.
