Nope

Defence Ministry officials said that the Finance Ministry has agreed to a “significant jump” in the capital acquisition outlay to nearly Rs 56,000 crore in 2011-12 from revised provision of Rs 45,000 crore in the current fiscal.
sigh !
do you understand the difference between capital outlay for defence and defence budget ? the defence budget is not seeing a hike nearing that amount.
from the same article.
However, most of the enhanced Budget — nearly Rs 35,000 crore — would go towards “committed liabilities of the past few years”, said the officials.
which do you think is larger, 11,000 crores or 35,000 crores.
does that mean, god forbid that I was correct after all ?

Indian Gov increases defense budget by 25% for the 2011-2012 financial years.
!!!
most of the increase would go towards settling arrears for the 6th pay commission pay hike.
swerve, keep in mind however that the govt watchdog body CAG has done its job and the sale of mobile phone spectrum licences has been scrapped. so there is a delay but the loss to the exchequer has been avoided.
excellent article, thanks Hammer.
could you keep an eye out about what embraer officials say about the follow up order for new platforms ? will the order go to embraer and if so, what model.
Gadhafi (BTW is there anyone who actually knows how to spell his last name? I’ve seen like 16 different variants)
there is no way to spell his name in english with the correct phonetics. soft D doesn’t exist in english, at any rate there is no way to differentiate it from normal D.
imageshack link not working. it shows a frozen fox in an ice cube.

WHat a bunch of nonsense. You seriously have no clue as to the subject, dear lord. T-80 turret? Not at all. Not even on original T-90 san suffix of the 1990s, let alone T-90A or T-90C. The only thing the trials showed is the clear attempt to make the T-90 look bad by achieving horrible firing accuracy for example (something no other T-90 operator ever had)… in the end it indicates either 1.) Indian tankers are incompetent 2.) the trials were bull****. You pick. The T-90 is going to be the mainstay of the army, Arjun has been a spectacular failure of a program in the grand scale of things.
Honestly, I don’t mean to be rude, but tanks are something of a passion of mine. Your post was 100% nonsense, go post it on tanknet and see what happens.
sorry you are being rude, ignorant and using patriotism as a substitute for facts.
you are in a really sorry state if tanks are your passion and this is your level of knowledge.
I’ve spent my time at tanknet and then some with real world tankers. why don’t you check what vasily fofanov, an admin at tanknet forums (a site you seem to swear by) says about the T-90 in his site ?
everyone, especially right thinking russians admit that they have fallen behind in the tank race and the T-72 development line is an evolutionary dead-end. cancellation of the black eagle which too was developed on the basic T-72 philosophy by russia’s MOD is further confirmation of the fact.
about the Arjun.. it is right.. its a western style tank.. built in a country that does not have western style infrastructure to support it.
what exactly is western style infrastructure ? 😀
arjun is transported on trains and the bogeys needed to transport it have started production.
it is designed to give much better hassle-free performance on the frontlines than the T-90. there was a report by an army EME guy (Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) attached to a T-90 regiment. the field trial performance of the 2 tanks was pathetic. both engines conked up, it took about 6 hours to change it (it takes less than 30 min for arjun) the electronics got fried up and worst of all the russians let them know that the engine would be able to produce only 75-80% of its brochure power. this when the T-90 is anyway underpowered compared to tanks like arjun.
Oh here we go, the Leo-2 fan club. Leo-2 is no magic tank, sorry. Abrams has better crew survivability for example due to entire ammo capacity being stored in blow-out panels, while Leo-2 has a portion of the main caliber compliment on hull floor.
hello TR1, arjun has its entire ammo stored in blow out panels as well.
it’s likely they are using no escape kill zone values which are usually far lower than theoretical max engagement range.
interesting, I had missed that. the links suggest that they chose Thales for interoperability with western types !
even the MKI uses HAL’s IFF1410A
BTW, you might be right about inflated or deflated figures. This placard states that the RVV-AE weighs 170 kgs, not 200 kgs as claimed in the comparison chart.

they might have added pylon weights ?
Or it could just be wrong and made to show a domestic advantage. India has long experience with the T-90 too, but the “results” from the trials against the Arjun were clearly nonsense. Also didn’t India purchase initially the R-77, not the current RVV-AE?
hardly nonsense. the T-90 was army’s dog in the contest and they tried their best as the user to show it as superior but failed spectacularly.
whichever way you put it, putting T-80 turret on T-72 chasis is a dead development path. russia needed to invest in new tanks by yesterday.
the arjun beats the T-90 in every aspect on and off paper.
IAF uses Indian made IFFs on all its fighters. if it’s not allowed on US jets that would be a major problem.
nice to see ajai shukla confirming what I wrote here albeit with much more details and words from the horses mouth.
because it looks cool ?! duh ! 😀
